$4.50 at the local Mobil.
What will we see first? $3.99 or $5.00.

We hope gas prices go up even more! Love, Democrats
"We are happy with 8% inflation as long as there are no mean tweets. Sincerely, Democrats"

I think long term, unlike you. Nothing will make me happier than the oil companies going out of business. Forever. The coal companies did it in Pennsylvania years ago, showing they didn’t give a shit about their customers. Seems the oil companies didn’t learn much. Keep raising the prices, boys! Electric is anxiously waiting.RQA wrote:PennSpartan wrote:

The electric company turns off my AC in the summer if it gets too hot and they can't make enough to keep up.
Does that count as "not screwing the customers"?

Sounds like they have a real crisis. Unlike the oil companies, who raise prices because “there’s not enough crude” but no gas stations ever shut down for lack of gas. Interesting dilemma.RQA wrote:PennSpartan wrote:

That's because gas is easy to store. Electricity, not so much.

Funny that batteries is one form of electric storage and the charging of EV batteries at night when electric usage is low is one way to increase electricity providers profits and store electrucity for later use.

You are making my point aren't you Trapper? The big roadblock in a switch to wind/solar is not how to make electricity from wind/solar but how to store large quantities of it for use when there is not wind or sun.

For some reason all of you ICE lovers think the switch to EV’s is going to happen overnight. People still used horses for transportation years after cars were in use. The idea is to promote the new technology instead of hindering it like Trump did.RQA wrote:Trapper Gus wrote:

Months ago in the EV thread.
I have always said that the EV market is coming online in the 3 to 5 year time frame. I don't know why you think otherwise.
Where I live and what I want to drive isn't available as an EV from my preferred brand. Right now with the Reagan/Trump created supply issues I was lucky to walk into my dealer and drive out with something close to what I wanted. Inital reports are that it gets about 4 mpg less than the 2008 HEV Escape, which is making me sad. Ford doesn't yet offer AWD in a HEV, PHEV or BEV that I like but that will haooen going forward in time. My plan was to keep the 2008 until it died, mechanically, which by then, I hoped the market would have created the BEV AWD vehicle I want, but that deer had ideas, too.

To be fair, I do recall you finally admitting that.
Of course I took a lot of shit for stating that EVs didn't currently meet my needs. I was some kind of outlier because EVs meet 90% of the needs of Americans or some such bullshit.
But yeah, good on you to admit that.

Make an EV that performs as well as my ICE vehicle that isn't $20K more to purchase and I'm in.
Right now EVs don't meet my needs. Same as Trapper. So I guess Trapper is an ICE lover, too?

To be clear Ford didn't have an EV on a particular dealer's lot when I needed to buy a vehicle that day.
There may or may not be EV's from other brands which would meet my needs. Looking at Ford's line up combined with my needs, they don't have one, yet.

One of your needs was to buy from Ford. (Note to self, Trapper may be a masochist. Investigate this line of thinking later.)

I try not to think about what I hate about the new vehicle, waste of time and energy, but the power train noise and having shift points is near the top of the list that I don't think about.
Being somewhat on the inside of the industry I like Ford Truck Engineering, had one car, it didn't last.
As for the needs, we have a good relationship with our local Ford dealer, which is why we got a hot selling vehicle at list when there is a shortage.

It could be both, of course. Raking in profits in the EU and making the current anti-Putin leaders look bad.

Exactly. Until there is a decrease in demand the price will remain high. It’s not due to lack of supply.

So you think the supply is low? How many gas stations in Michigan have put up “out of fuel” signs? I didn’t see the price of toilet paper double when that was in short supply two years ago. And the stores were actually rationing it in my area.

The data shows that supply is lower than it has been in years past.
Presumably the demand is also lower than in years past, too, as gasoline is similar to electricity in that it doesn't sit in storage for very long.
As we go into the summer months demand will increase, presumably, as it typically does.
The higher prices are not reducing demand much, yet according to the link below.
Gas Prices Not Reducing Demand
Not sure what to make of the huge profits that oil companies and gasoline companies are making other than they are price gouging because they can, not because they need to. Gasoline is a somewhat inelastic supply & demand curve, as though there are some trips people can forgo, there are some they cannot.
