ANN ARBOR – Michigan State’s breakthrough season continued Friday under second-year head coach Adam Nightingale.

The ninth-ranked Spartans came out buzzing in the third period against Michigan, scoring two goals in the first nine minutes to break a 1-1 tie. They added two empty-net goals late for a 5-1 victory, reaching the 19-win mark for the first time since their last NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012 and extending their first-place cushion in the Big Ten.
