General college football thread 2023
No clock stoppage after first down.
The NCAA is expected to approve today rules changes proposed earlier this year that will allow the clock to run after first downs are achieved in all divisions except Division III, CBS Sports has learned. The clock will continue to stop after first downs during the final two minutes of each half.
Also
No consecutive timeouts: This mostly impacts field goals attempts when opposing coaches call multiple timeouts in order to "ice the kicker."
Untimed penalties: Rules violations that occur with no time on the clock in the first and third quarters would carry over to the next quarter, thus limiting "untimed downs" to the end of the halves.
Replay adjustments: During games in which there isn't a replay official in the booth, on-field officials will have optional replay in which they can use available video after a coach's challenge.

Re: General college football thread 2023
We always talk about Izzo and Heathcote having a long tenure in basketball. How about Iowa football? Between Fry and Ferentz they have had two coaches in the period 1979 to present. Granted, Iowa football doesn't have the national success, but still remarkable in today's world.Turtleneck wrote:

So that’s why Iowa has so many low scoring games: Ferentz only takes 1 pt. for every score. Weird strategy.

That was bad. I wonder if they could have got their time out back because of the review.

Rhule should of called a TO after the 1st down run and 25s on the clock.
Or not burn a TO with 44s left and the clock stopped, leaving you with only 1 TO.

Checking replay 2 plays back seems a little messed up.

There is lots to unpack in the last 45s. And we haven't even talked about the INT.

If we lose to these two teams we’re in for a long one. This is badly executed football.

Agreed.
Sims can run, but he's a turnover machine. And the Rowing Coach said his QB could play in the NFL. That's a hard no from me.
I see 7 wins on the schedule for sure.*

With Stanford, Cal and SMU moving to the ACC, at least the Big Ten name doesn't seem so strange. Maybe the should change it to the All Coasts Conference.

I can’t overstate how important I think it is that the Colorado experiment fails miserably. If they succeed and end up in a ny6 bowl and every other team decides to treat the off season as if every player is a free agent, then college football may well be dead forever.

I think both of those teams would've rolled MSU.

Anyone know if Sanders wants to use his college coaching experience/success to parlay a HC position in the NFL, or is he content with the university environment, maybe winding up at FSU?
