Yes, Mel Tucker is the coach. Totally lost me last year with his inability to do anything consistently except pay for sub par coordinators.

Beyond that, there is tampering going on. And that’s fine. USC did it to Pitt last year. This is a whole different game being played. We all thought Tucker was going to be able to play that game the best because of Walker I think. Maybe he’s getting out maneuvered. Hall at needs to hire a GM. If we don’t, we’re screwed

I think it's becoming clear you need to find "investors" who are willing to lose a significant amount of money for their team "win"

I can see Coleman moving for NIL. Maybe. Thorne? Not so much. Does he want to go play for his dad at Western? Are the wheels coming off in EL, or did Tuck decide Kim/Hauser are just better?
How many Dantonio guys are left?

So, when you read different things by people, you know, who, for the most part, aren’t full of crap, I hear it’s really not NIL money. In other words we can match offers. So is it a tampering issue? Our schools like LSU telling him he could possibly win a national championship and be a showcase receiver?
My other question is: do we have a head coach that might be in over his head? Do we need a general manager?

Everything prior to last season indicated he was not in over his head. Thorne's a serviceable B1G QB, but he's probably not getting us past OSU. Maybe Kim/Hauser were passing him on the depth chart. Coleman's a loss for sure, but maybe that's addition by subtraction. And both of them are Dantonio guys.
Clearly I'm scrambling to draw a positive out of this. I assume TOB is going apeshit.

Let's take Keon out of equation for a sec. Obviously a big blow.
Are ya'll really upset Thorne is leaving? I don't think I'm exaggerating by saying fan support for Thorne was 50% at best and peeps have been pimping Kim all spring. Now we're pissed Thorne is leaving?
I'm not a Thorne hater by any stretch. But we weren't winning the conference this year. If we had a senior team coming back, yeah I'd be bummed and want Thorne as my returning starter. But quite honestly I'd rather move on and get Kim and Hauser ready for the future.
Again, we are all bummed about Coleman, are you mad about Thorne too?
Penn State and Allar/Singleton/Allen are winning the conference the next two years.

Merge the xfl and usfl then instead of hiring busted ass couldn’t hack it in the nfl players, hire kids out of high school that have a shot in the nfl. Return college football to being basically a club sport with kids that will almost certainly end up with internships at accounting firms in the summer instead of dudes who aren’t there to play school.

Mel was considered the pioneer of the portal with KW3. Whether it was KW3 or someone else, the portal was going blow up either way. But we've gained far more than we've lost in the portal and it isn't even close. Coleman (and Thorne I guess) is the first significant player we've lost. I can't think of anyone that has gone to be an impact player at P5 school or was a major piece prior to leaving. I'm sure I'm missing someone.

Re: Keon Coleman transfer Portal
Until MSU starts winning the better players will be targets for other teams.
If Colman is being promised starting role on a team with greater national exposure it makes sense.
Thorne could be seeing the writing on the wall and we don't know what he is being told by the coaches. Also his buddy Reed is gone, so less a connection.
In one sense this is a sign that MSU is recruiting players that other teams want.
If it is the money and MSU wants to keep them they can increase the money, if it is national exposure, winning championships or relationship issues not much can be done, though Trucker has pulled players he wanted back from the portal before.
One other thought is how much playing for MSU means in the NFL draft. If the players drafted were at lower draft levels than their talent suggested they should have been that could be part of it.

The best boxers in the world are great counter punchers We’ve got four months until kick off. Let’s see what coach talk and come up with.
I wish that we would have a central general manager. Hell maybe we do already? But when stuff like this happens, I think it would be wise to alleviate some of the man hours from Tucker. It’s a whole different ballgame now and God bless these kids for getting as much as they can, so colleges have to start managing that. And I believe you need a whole separate office with a highly paid person that can be considered a general manager just like NFL team cab.

If I'm a betting man (and I am), I would bet this is the case. He wasn't named the starter going in or out of spring (maybe I missed it). I'm sure they had a frank convo after spring.
Because he's a QB with solid P5 experience, he'll end up at a P5. QB is cutthroat business and there are a bunch of schools that are not happy about their QB situation. Almost every team in the SEC is changing QBs. Alabama just brought in a new kid. Ole Miss has three former starting P5 QBs on their roster.
I don't think it is a sign that coaches were knocking down his door and we couldn't keep him. I think he is being gently pushed out and because he's a QB will find a cushy landing spot.
