I'm guessing you are buying FOB shipping point
Generally I think so. Its stuff from a sister company that auto OEMs have specced in here. It may be us but it's still sold to us in the transfer. I'm not in purchasing, I deal more on the pricing side where the actual problem will be. Our price goes up on the transfer, we either have to eat it or raise our price to the buyers.
There is Zero appetite for further price increases right now and half of what we sell is under contract. If we raise the price, it will trigger a round of market testing and we could lose the business. We do a good job of dissuading engineers from going with a part made in China but there are quite a few cases where it has to be done just because it's likely something unique that can't be purchased here at the moment.
Thanks, got it.
I didn't assume you are playing in my old playground and you are.
Tier Ones are always caught between their suppliers and the OEMs

I'm not convinced he'll enact tariffs that would have a clear impact on the consumer. He could be that dumb though.
Is he willing to play chicken with China over tariffs? Maybe. And that might not be a bad thing.
But, if the cost of iphones go up...or cars...or Nikes...or a ton of items at the Dollar Store, that's how you win on the economy.
Are there a ton of industries that can move production back to the US? And still profit? I'm a little skeptical of that. And he'll face backlash from corporations and shareholders if stock prices plummet.
Trump may or may not understand in detail what China is doing in selected markets to reduce its corporations costs, but he gets they are doing something.
Tariffs on most Chinese goods make sense to balance the big advantage China is creating accounting wise.
It CAN make sense but doing big broad tariffs quickly is not a good idea. Targeted like what Biden did to Chinese EVs were good considering we have many home grown options now. He basically prevented entry of the Chinese which is great for us.
But our top EV company Tesla is obviously trying to fully automate production. Supporting him is supporting getting rid of jobs as people adopt EVs. Musk has publicly noted his desire to create a fully autonomous factory, and that's freaking scary.
Broad tariffs though are dumb and will harm actual people. Its all about perspective. Broad tariffs will directly pull money out of American's pockets on common goods. Preventing Chinese EVs while in theory is doing the same because Americans won't have the opportunity to buy lower cost EVs, nobody will truly notice because it never really effected the market, EV prices are what they are.

It’s a world economy, and no one understands that better than US corporations and their shareholders. If he screws it up enough that your average consumer will understand it…
It is a world economy and that does not mean that it is a level playing field. China is one of the bigger offenders of having the government put their fists on the scales.
