Outstanding advice about going to pick up the pie. Don't call ahead though. Order it when you get there. Gives you time for maybe two Chianti's and the pizza just seems fresher when you get it home.

No idea if true but co-worker said Loui's will be awarded Best Pizza in the USA on the show. Also, no idea who is claiming that.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:Loui's is good. You will like it. Honestly I like Buddy's better. I don't think I've ever had a Loui's that was better than a Buddy's Detroiter but obviously everyone has their own tastes and opinions.

Figured I better try it now in case the place gets overrun with customers after Saturday.

Yes most of the legit Detroit style places use 100% Wisconsin brick cheese. They also cube it rather than grate it. You can buy it at Nino's if you ever want to experiment.

The antipasto salad was simple but also very good. Cubed cheese in it.

Mrs. GreenWay grew up out East right down the street from a place specializing in ultra thin crust. Personally, I’m a fan of Detroit-style, but she’s always looking for the super thin, so our quest continues. I’m okay with that.

Little Caesars has a new, surprisingly decent, ultra thin crust pizza ($6).

Haha, I generally loathe LC because for years it was the only pizza my kids would eat (though the old axiom that there's no such thing as bad pizza still holds pretty much true). But I had to try it. I concur with you. It's not bad.
Isn't that thin a little different from the New Haven/NY style thin? My impression was the NY style was the large foldable greasy slice and the New Haven style was a little thinner but not quite crispy (I found the LC to be a little crispy) - more like Tomatoes that I posted the link to above.
Also pantry got my juices going and I went to Nino's and bought a dough and a brick of brick. If I have the energy I'm going to be making a Detroiter in about 45 minutes.

This is pretty damned close. Made this for my buddies up north and they thought it was as good as Buddy's. I disagree (it's close), but they are fucking idiots, especially @GirbaudJeans.

How many toppings do you guys usually put on your pizza orders? I guess my family was pizza rich. We always ordered three toppings on our pizzas. But when I went over to various friends houses, most everyone ordered two. Maybe I just had poor friends?
Anyway, I've carried this on to present day. My go to combo is usually sausage, mushrooms, and onions. Every once in a while when I'm feeling saucy I'll go with a ham/pineapple combo. The place I usually order pizza from always has a two topping pizza cheaper than their specialty Hawaiian. Silly.

I generally IOW like 99.8% of the time go straight for the deluxe special with eight items, substitute one item I'm not in the mood for in exchange for something else.
I have a hard time eating pizza without three meats and 5 veggies.
I'm also down to ordering pizza maybe twice a year, which is kinda sad.

It's not played if I'm waiting for a pizza and my wife orders and she's ordered mushrooms, pineapple, and anchovies. I seriously don't have much of a mind for whatever and those designer pizza's at some fancy pizza places are pretty damn good sometimes. However, there are combo's that you just can't get your mouth to enjoy and have no idea how some people can.

While generally true, there are exceptions. One time we were ordering pizza for the team for a lunch time meeting. The idiot that was in charge of ordering ordered 3 pizzas for 10 people (should have been 4). He then ordered ham and pineapple on one.
There were two pieces left, one pepperoni, one ham and pineapple. The orderer and I had each had one piece, so we each had one more piece (because he ordered too few). I reached over and grabbed the last pepperoni and started chowing. After he said to me "You took my last piece of pizza." I said "Oh really, I only had two pieces of pepperoni." "HE said, "Oh, well I had to eat a piece of ham and pineapple!." I looked at him in the eyes and said "Who was the idiot that ordered a ham and pineapple pizza?!?" He knew full well I knew it was him. He shut up and walked away.

My Italian wife prefers pepperoni on one, and fresh garlic and ricotta on another. We get along just fine.
I love the salty/sweet pizza combinations. Even tried a pineapple/feta combo one time. Pretty good. Americans order what they want.
