tOfficial Pizza Thread
If you gave up pizza or bacon today for Lent, don’t reader any farther.
Detroit-based pizza chain Little Caesars today unveiled a $12 deep-dish eight-corner pizza that uses more than 3.5 feet of bacon wrapped around the caramelized cheese edges.
The “Bacon Wrapped Crust DEEP! DEEP! Dish Pizza” will be available beginning Monday until late April, the chain said.
The pie is a Detroit-style deep dish pizza, Little Caesars said in a statement, and it uses whole strips of thick-cut bacon around the edges of the crust. It is topped with cheese, pepperoni and pieces of bacon.
The bacon crust pizza will be available at U.S. locations as a Hot-N-Ready carryout option from 4 to 8 p.m., or by request all day, the chain said.

A pizza wrapped in bacon, with pepperoni and more bacon on top is going to be a little greasy. He didn't know that going in? What a rookie.

For the love of all that is Holy, this thread has gotten off to a horrific start. I will do my best here to help steer "tOFFICIAL PIZZA THREAD" back to windward, but in the words of PJ Fleck, we all need to row this fucker.

Okay, that post was a little misleading. I did not make that pizza. But have made similar so I was improvising here.

Yeah, it was a shitty way to start but there were too many random pizza threads.SeeRockCity wrote:For the love of all that is Holy, this thread has gotten off to a horrific start. Don't have a pizza setup for my grills but have a couple stones I use in the oven. Buy dough balls from Jets ($1.50-$2.00) and load them up. They come out great.

"My" pizzas were from the Interwebs :) But we do make pizzas both on the egg and in the oven with the help of a hefty stone. Some of them look similar to the ones posted.
We used to buy dough balls as well, but I started making my own. So simple (as I'm sure you're aware) yet so good.
I haven't gotten around to making my own sauce yet, as it's too easy to grab some off the shelf but that's next. Home made tomato sauce >>>>>> Canned so I'm assuming the same holds true for pizza sauce.
P.S. - I was just giving you shit. Of all the people on this board, you are the last person I would have guessed to start a pizza thread with Little Caesar's despite the timeliness of the OP.

You can buy dough balls from Jet's? I did not know this. I believe I'll be breaking out the pizza stone this weekend.

My home made pizza sauce is pretty much like making spaghetti sauce. Sweat onions & garlic with dried oregano, dried basil, and red chile flakes. Add crushed tomatoes and simmer for an hour. Salt to taste. I finish with a stick blender to smooth it out. Only real difference with the pizza sauce is I use more red chile flake to spice it up.SeeRockCity wrote:

Haven't been adventurous enough to attempt making my own pizza dough yet. Getting dough balls from Jets is too easy. Some grocery stores around here sell dough balls too.

Found a really easy recipe in this book:
Which, btw, has become my "Joy of Cooking". If I want to know what a default version of "X" looks and tastes like, I make the one in here. Never fails. Sits right next to my Larousse Gastronomique :)

Missed your post earlier. Yeah, most locations will sell them. Price varies. If they refuse or give you the stinkeye like, "Why aren't you buying pizzas?", make up a story about your wife or gf finding a recipe for dessert pizza she wants to make for a party.Watch Out Pylon! wrote:

Or don't be a pussy and just tell them that it's none of their goddamn business and that if they don't give you all of the dough and the money in the register you'll burn the building down. Either way.The Pantry wrote:

Re: tOfficial Pizza Thread
Anyone remember pizza with ground cornmeal stuck to the bottom? That little bit of crunch? You could either leave it on or wipe most of it off with your hand. Always loved it but you don't see it much anymore with restaurants having high-tech pizza ovens. Making pizza at home I discovered it had functional purpose as well as crunch.
Sprinkle cornmeal and a little flour on the peel, which is where I build my pizzas. It helps the pie release from the peel much easier than flour alone when putting it in the oven. Also put a little cornmeal on the stone after it's heated and just before putting the pizza on.

Ordered a Shields deep dish pizza tonight. Don't care for it. Too much sauce, not enough cheese, and the dough is bread-like and had a burnt taste. Never again

Did you try Chadd's in Rochester yet? That stuff is good. You sound like more of a square/Detroit style guy. So maybe it won't be for you. IMO it's up there with Tomatoes and Supino for top NY Style in the area. They're each a little different, but all great.

I've probably tried every pizza place East of M-5 and North of 8 mile in thinking about it. And quite a few standouts outside of that area. I'm pathetic, but it's fun to try new places.
