I almost drove off the road and into a grove of trees when I heard that interview on the radio. So much hilarity in so few words.

Ex-NFL GMs Accorsi, Wolf on what's ahead in Lions' search
Ernie Accorsi spent three weeks crisscrossing the country last January, running a two-headed search for the Chicago Bears not too dissimilar to the one the Lions could be headed for this winter.
The Bears, after a hugely disappointing 2014, fired coach Marc Trestman and general manager Phil Emery and hired Accorsi as a consultant to help find their replacements.
A longtime GM with the Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants who now serves on the NFL's career development advisory panel, Accorsi flew some 24,000 miles to interview candidates on some of the most successful teams in the league.
Now the Lions might be turning to outside help in their hiring efforts. According to NFL.com commentator Gil Brandt on Twitter on Sunday, the Lions have hired a search firm to help identify replacements for general manager Martin Mayhew, who was fired after seven seasons as GM last week.

I personally don't buy the "Lose and get that #1 pick" notion fans have. Unless there's a complete lock out there as #1 in the draft, it doesn't matter anyway, unless you have the scouting and management to hit it in the draft. The Packers and Patriots have had shitful draft positions for years, and have still managed to pull off decent drafts with quality players who form the foundation for years to come.
Me? Give me good management and wins every day of the fucking week. Lions fans know that the management will at least be different, so there's a chance at one-half of the equation; now just give me wins, and damn draft position.

Lions victory on Monday Night Football worth $100,000 to novice gambler from Las Vegas
How much was the Detroit Lions victory over New Orleans on Monday Night Football worth?
Not a whole lot for the Lions in the NFL standings.
But it was worth a cool $100,000 for a novice gambler from Las Vegas.
Tayla Polia, who has lived in Vegas for two months, won a 15-leg NFL parlay Monday night after the Lions beat the Saints 35-27 in a game that was meaningless for both teams since they're out of playoff contention.
But Polia's $5 bet resulted in a six-figure payday from William Hill's mobile gaming site, according to a story by ESPN.com. The odds of her correctly predicting 15 games were 20,000-1 but she nailed them all after the Lions won despite being three-point underdogs.

Bad season hasn't dimmed coaching star of Lions' Austin
Interim Lions general manager Sheldon White will be one of a handful of top minority candidates the FPA pushes for GM openings around the league this year, too, Wooten said.
White is expected to officially interview with the Lions and search consultant Ernie Accorsi after the season, and Wooten said he's already talked to White about having "a new structure, a new plan of where (the Lions are) going to go and how (they're) going to get there."
The Lions remain in the vetting stage for their GM opening, and can't officially interview candidates currently with other NFL teams until after the regular season.
White's plan is expected to include bringing Caldwell back for a third season as head coach.

http://detroitsportsnation.com/detroit-nfl/bdangelo/breaking-lions-to-hire-bob-quinn-as-gm/
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Detroit Lions have landed on Bob Quinn to take over as their general manager.
As stated in the tweet, Quinn comes over to the Lions from the New England Patriots, where he formerly held the role of director of pro scouting. Quinn had been with the Patriots since 2000, when he started with the team as a player personnel assistant. After that, he held a number of scouting jobs as he slowly climbed the ranks within the Patriots organization.
With Quinn's hire, speculation regarding Lions head coach Jim Caldwell's job security is expected to heat up. A decision on Caldwell's status within the organization could come sooner rather than later.

Dave Birkett wrote:A longtime Patriots executive with experience in pro and college scouting, [Gil] Brandt said Quinn has a reputation across the league of being a hard worker with a keen eye for talent.
“He’s not one of these guys that’s known because he doesn’t seek out jobs,” Brandt said. “But he knows the personnel part of it, he knows the cap part of it. He knows how to make people better at the job they do. You’ll like this guy because … he’s a hustler, and he’s very low-key.” ...
“I want to be very careful how I say this,” Brandt said. “He is Jim Schwartz, only I think that he has the ability to get along with people a lot better.
“He can tell you everything you want to know. He knows how the right guard should play, and he knows how the kicker should kick, and he knows how to negotiate deals. He’s just — they’re very fortunate.”

Re: The 2015/16 Detroit Lions thread
Jim Caldwell returns. Back for next season at least.
I can think of 2 reasons.
Martha Ford still owes Caldwell at least $8M for the last two years of his contract and with the Ford family personal banker as team president she was probably aware the team was paying Schwartz $6M for the last two years.
The second is The Rooney Rule which covers HC's and recently GM's. The Lions fired Mayhew and just replaced him with Quinn. Don't think they wanted a double whammy and replace Caldwell with another coach. Plus now they can negotiate and sign OC Cooter, the Stafford whisperer, if Cooter wants to stay working with Caldwell.
