Begins Wednesday night.

Call me an old fart but this is the only series on network television that I still watch.

Watch the first 9 minutes of the Survivor: Cambodia—Second Chance premiere

It’s finally here! At least some of it. Twenty former Survivor players were voted in by fans to play again on Survivor: Cambodia—Second Chance, which premieres Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS. But why wait until then to watch what happens when you can view the first nine minutes (well, eight minutes and 48 seconds if you want to be technical, but we’re rounding up) of their journey right here and right now? That’s right, we’ve got the beginning of the premiere ready and waiting.

You may be an old fart but you fit into a young demo for Survivor.

I have never seen more than 30 seconds of Survior but there are millions like yourself that have kept it going for 16 years. The 16 year thing makes me feel old.

With about 10 million viewers I see it was the 2nd most watched show on Weds night behind Empire. Used to get a lot more viewers than that but TV continues to bleed numbers.

I watched the early seasons through roughly season 10 or so, then drifted away for 10 seasons. Came back around 19 or 20 and have watched all the seasons since.

‘Survivor’ Defies Gravity to Hang On as CBS Ratings Stalwart

On Sunday, “CSI,” the CBS drama starring Ted Danson, quietly ended its 15-year run with a two-hour series finale. Next year, “American Idol,” the talent competition that has been on the air since 2002, will end after years of declining ratings.
In television, even the most popular shows have expiration dates. But while these two juggernauts from the early 2000s are finished, there is one franchise player from that era that continues to defy time and seismic shifts in the television industry. The CBS show “Survivor” enters this television season, its 16th year on the air, still locked in on Wednesdays at 8 p.m., and still winning that time slot.

“Survivor” is hardly the only veteran reality show that is still delivering. “The Amazing Race” also on CBS, has been on for 14 years and continues to collect Emmy nominations, but it is slowly losing viewers, particularly since the network moved it from Sunday night to the relative backwater of Friday night. (It finished its most recent season with fewer than eight million overnight viewers.) ABC’s 10-year-old “Dancing With the Stars” still delivers close to 15 million viewers twice a week, though it has shown signs of fatigue in the 18-to-49-year-old demographic critical to advertisers.
“Survivor,” on the other hand, has been consistent not only in its viewership totals but also among people younger than 50. It has scored ratings between 3.1 and 3.5 in that demographic since the beginning of 2012. The most recent episode of “Dancing With the Stars” scored a 2.1 in that age group; “Survivor” got a 3.1. (The rating, in this case, is the percentage of people from 18 to 49 years old who are tuned into that program. Each national ratings point represents a little more than one million households.)

American Idol is finally being put out of its misery. One last season (I think in the spring, but maybe it's still yet to come in the fall). The only down side is that Fox will likely hype it to even more nauseating levels than usual. Dancing With The Stars is still doing pretty well. The Voice is still really strong (and I think just won the Emmy for best reality show or something?). Survivor and Amazing Race are the "old school" ones that still do solid numbers. Big Brother continues to do OK, as summer programming goes. Celebrity Apprentice is coming back in the Spring, I think, but instead of Trump, it will be Ahnold telling people, "You're Terminated". FOX started showing Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader again this summer, but not sure how that did. I only saw part of it once this summer, because the channel was on when I turned on the TV and I heard them say that the contestant was an MSU grad. Turns out he was also Elizabeth Berkley's brother. Fascinating, I know.

And no, I don't watch all these shows. I know about them because it's my business to know. I sometimes watch Survivor and Amazing Race, but that's it. They're both pretty well done as far as the competitions and such goes, which I think is why they've had staying power.

It's still on because there isn't shit else. It's like you see a QB in the NFL that sucks and yet, year after year he's still in the NFL. Orlovsky? Seriously? If you're half ass good, they want you to stick around because there just isn't a damn thing else on that will help you win. Same with these shit shows. It might be boring and contrived, but what else is out there?

I don't watch it goose, but I have no problem with anyone watching it. I can't stand t.v. network shit ever since Cheers went off the air. I know it's our age. I'm assuming if you're still watching it, I'd probably not want to gouge my eyes out if I saw a couple episodes. But it's not my cup of tea. My point is, I don't think with the shit that is on now that it would take much to beat out other shows.

I'm just surprised it's still on the air. I watch a bit of the 2nd season way back when and could never get into it. Not my bag.

My sister and my daughter still watch it. It's fun to rehash the episode by email or whenever you see each other. A lot of people I like are on this version, should be fun.

Yep, my wife absolutely will not miss the show. She'll dvr if she has to, but that's last resort.
