The Lions and Vikings have identical 5-4 records, but Detroit beat Minnesota last week in overtime to get the edge.

Detroit hasn’t won the NFC North since 1993. Certainly it’s no sure thing with seven games remaining but the Lions control their destiny now.

Here are five reasons the Lions should win the division title:

1. They are 1-2 in division games so far. Those were all on the road which obviously means their final three NFC North games are at Ford Field. They play the Vikings again on Thanksgiving, then the Bears on Dec. 11. The regular season ends with a Jan. 1 contest against the Packers. No but it does include one of the many reasons that few are believers....

The Lions aren’t exactly in unprecedented territory. They seemed to have the division in hand before they sat down for Thanksgiving three years ago only to lose four straight and six of seven to finish the season.
