Duffy, you too. I knew a 1-3-1 was kind of like tan fans wheel route but I didn’t have a counter.

It's kinda like a full court press some people are asking for. It works in middle school when kids panic and throw the ball away.
At this level, it leads to incredibly easy baskets. Ask Billy Donovan

Re: 2017/18 Hoops Thread - Unfinished Business.
I heard about 5 or 10 minutes of it as I happened to be picking up lunch and Rome was on a commercial. It was mostly lunacy. Mike does not know hoops very well and he starts sounding like you said Wags, like tanfan crying wheel route. He (Valenti) I think has at least a slightly better handle on football.
Tum should never see the floor again? Ok so we don't have a backup PG? Who locked down that Sanders (or was it Flowers, I can't remember) during the last two minutes in the Rutgers game when Cash couldn't? Our offensive sets don't work? Izzo has been running half court sets (and not always the same ones) for 20 years and they seem to have worked just fine for him.
I agree with Cameron about zone D - sometimes I think it might help mask some of the team's defensive deficiencies (and to be honest I'm specifically referencing Winston and Ward here) but D is not the problem. We have let one team shoot over 50% on us and it was OSU.
Would I like to see JJJ get the ball more in the half court when the offense seems like it bogs down? Sure. However, he's gotta keep himself on the floor and not pick up his 3rd foul by the 18 minute mark in every game.
And the offensive problems will work themselves out. Like I said elsewhere, they're going to rep Ward's post position and where he needs to go with the ball depending where the help comes from. They'e going to push on Cassius and Miles and Langford to be more aggressive. And after listening to Izzo today, they're going to emphasize the break, he feels that was a major issue in the offensive issues, they did not rebound and look to run the way he would like.
Sky is not falling.

AnomanderRake wrote:I don't think our defense is the problem as a few others have said.
Basketball is a game of match-ups, OSU and UM gave us some really difficult match-ups that we didn't prepare well for and adjusted for in-game even worse.
Ward had absolutely no business guarding Wagner. His speed, agility, and versatility were a nightmare for Ward making one of our best players a complete liability. Izzo should have rotated other bigs to guard Wagner and see who could slow him down or make adjustments to double team him.
I'm more concerned about how awful our offense has been the last few games. When we don't get defensive stops, or in a game like UM that is heavily dictated by fouls that eliminate transition opportunities, we look absolutely terrible in a half-court set. How many times did we start our first offensive set with like 12-15 seconds left on the shot clock? The pressure of hurrying through an offensive set to get a decent shot is also forcing us into bad positions that lead to turnovers and garbage shots.
Pretty much agree. The OSU game I'll chalk up to road BIG game getting away from them (especially the last minute of the 1st half).
In the Michigan game, Izzo flat out got out coached by Beilein. Beilein had an offensive game plan to exploit the athletic mismatch at center and PG by spreading things out, running the high pick and roll and isolating Wagner/Simpson on Ward/Cassius up high. I go back to my original comment in the game thread. JJ should of been on Wagner from the jump... or after third time he exploited Ward. Izzo said he didn't want JJ to get in foul trouble. Fuck that. We have 17 bigs on this team. When an opposing big is ass raping you, you put the best possible D match-up on him. If he fouls out, he fouls out. I get that JJ is a big O threat, but in theory, we have plenty of offensive weapons. JJ should of been on Wagner and I don't care if he fouled out midway through the 2nd half with zero points.
Rant over. Win out.

I agree completely. It's so dumb posting links to information on the 2017-18 basketball team in a thread about the 2017-18 basketball team. Idiocy I tell yeah. He needs to create a separate thread where that type of stuff is relevant.

Maybe you could start a thread requesting removal of the link option in threads.

Let me save you some time. Someone posts something > Da Mayor posts some stupid bullshit demonstrating himself to be a massive wanker > someone recognizes stupidity > Da Mayor accuses that person of being mad. There, now you don't have to post anymore. We've all got the formula memorized, so you're officially redundant.

Re: 2017/18 Hoops Thread - Unfinished Business.
We have only played 3 true road games this year. Fewest of all 351 D1 teams. 6 of our last 10 are on the road. This team needs it.
I have no expectation of winning the regular season. I believe we'll drop one or two more, especially on the road. I just want Tum and Cash, to get better between now and the BTT, I think they will. If they start clicking, the moth of February doesn't mean shit. We'll be fine.
