Typical lib twist.
Oh, so you didn’t say religion? Interesting. It’s rich, you are one of the prime examples on this board (and just proved it) that the media owns and have this “us vs them” mindset in your head. Kinda sad when you think about it.

I knew this country was in trouble when we took god out of schools. The Pantry wrote:While you folks are arguing the never-ending gun discussion, it's kids doing most of the shooting.
My parents and most of my friends' parents had guns. There were school fights back then...elementary, middle (use to be called junior high), and high school. Even some when I was at State. They were all bare knuckles and wrestling. Saw a couple dudes get pretty fucked up but no one came close to dying. Kids knew when they won and backed off. Not once did any participant brandish a gun, despite having easy access to them.
Thoroughly convinced many kids today are messed up. In a way, victims of an environment that has been going downhill for decades: Technology that makes it easier to play football/basketball/war games online with friends than getting together on a field, court, or in someone's backyard. Single parent families/divorce. Loss of religion/faith and compassion. Social media, news media. Smartphones have made information/stories/propaganda immediately available to all.
Finally, I suspect nutrition may have a huge part in kids losing it.
Though now that we finally got rid of that colored boy and elected a fine christian man, I pray it's not too late.

Goose, my question said "mass shootings". You cited school shootings. I'm not going to question the source of the numbers you cited because I'm not looking them up on my own to debunk them.
But you deny that there's a problem with school shootings in this country. You are no longer worth having a conversation with on the subject in my honest opinion. Look forward to talking basketball recruiting and pies with you.

The list is growing!
Once everyone figures out there is no sense in trying to have an honest conversation with Goose, maybe then he'll change his ways. Probably not, but I can hope.
You would think when enough people tell you it's futile to talk to you on certain subjects or some people even saying it would be better for everyone if you were dead, you'd think you'd maybe reevaluate your worldview.

Look, definitely not. Goose is who goose is. He believes the shit he reads on redstate and dailycaller isn’t insane propaganda. Which is fine.
It’s somewhat instructive because he’s not the only person whose brain is deluded by that shit out of fear of whatever the fuck he’s so scared of constantly. On the other hand, other people are starting to be wise to their “we actually just want to give rich people your money despite all of the scary things we say about abortion and immigrants and whatever we just want you to vote for us so we can give rich people money” games, so maybe eventually his voice will be drowned out.

Excuse me if I missed the subject switch from just school shootings to mass shootings in general. And again the not useful idiot Travis chimes in with his false information too. The statistics I provided came from a Northeastern University study, if you want to get funding to take a year to "debunk" them go ahead. As far as mass shootings the most reliable numbers are Mother Jones.
And again like Travis, Pylon and others you're now making things up. Please point out for me where I said anything resembling this: "But you deny that there's a problem with school shootings in this country." What I did was point you to a factual, scholarly study that shows that school shootings are not more prevalent now than there were previously. Contrary to your assertion that doesn't mean I dismiss them as a problem, it means I'm not going to join in the ill informed hysteria that they're spiraling out of control.
If seeing facts ends that contradict your feelings is enough to end conversations then so be it. You'll have your chorus of trained monkeys cheering you on.
Now if you're interested in facts this is the link to the Mother Jones data set: https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/12/mass-shootings-mother-jones-full-data/
Here's their guide to mass shootings with more information: https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/07/mass-shootings-map/

1999 had 5, 1993 had 4 - it seemed to hover right around that number for quite some time with gaps of years without any. So yes there
are more mass killings, I don't know whether it qualifies as an epidemic. I'm still firmly in the camp that at least some of the shooters are copycats and I don't know how you end that without ending the publicizing of their names.
If you choose to end the discussion, that's your prerogative. It's what normally happens when anyone cites facts vs the emotional arguments. You know like the argument to solve mass killings by banning the weapon used in the minority of mass killings just because it looks scary.

I find it ironic that you have a theory that some of these shooters are "copycats" and commit these murders for the sheer copycat thrill of it. Then blame the media for glorifying these murders, as if the glorification, advertising, or marketing of the crime plays any role in someone wanting to kill others.

So to be clear - you don't think copycats exist or you don't think the media plays a role in creating them? Or both?
I think if you do some research on it you'll find that copycat crimes are not just a theory but a reality.

1) What would you guess the television time for gun ads is vs the time spent on the shootings?
2) Do you have some examples of this advertising and marketing you're referencing? I've never seen it but then again I'm pretty sheltered out here in hicksville. I'm pretty sure some won't like this request but you're stating something as factual that i've not seen so asking for examples is fair I think.
3) The ARs have been sold to the public since the 1960s, what changed to make them into "cool killing machines"?

When our right to keep and bear pressure cookers is enshrined in the constitution, I will consider that a cogent and valid counterpoint.LooseGoose wrote:Cameron wrote:
I would oppose the shit out of that, but I like my fourth amendment rights...
The way I see it, Pandora is out of the box. The gun manufacturers have succeeded in getting too many guns into circulation to ever get rid of. The NRA and their ilk like to say responsible gun owners are not the problem. Let's take them at their word. Let's introduce legislation to put stiffer penalties in place for owning/possessing unregistered firearms, and let's also make it so that if a firearm that is registered in your name is used in a crime, you are guilty of that crime as well and get exactly the same penalty as the perpetrator. Call it the Responsible Gun Owner Act or some shit.
Just give people incentive to lock their shit up. It wouldn't stop gun violence completely (that's obviously impossible), but it should help.
I'm onboard if applied to all items. Guns, Cars, Boats, knives, pressure cookers, pipes - if something you own is used in a crime off to prison you go.
