Wow, this gave Argentina a HUGE lifeline. Argentina essentially controls their own destiny now. They need to beat Nigeria by 1 more goal than Iceland beats Croatia by.
Croatia should be Iceland, how motivated will they be?

I see I missed the “omg people try to take advantage of the refs unlike any other sport ever” debate. Sad. Anyway, glad Egypt is out so me and salah can become best friends next month and Belgium is gonna win this shit.

Too bad. I was hoping for some soccer snob interjection.

Nah, that’s not really my style. I just like the sport a whole lot. I don’t necessarily care who else does as long as I can watch it on my television still.
Germany-Sweden will be boring AF unless Germany scores early and forces Sweden out of their defense. Just a hunch what the hell do I actually know

Re: tSwill Official World Cup Thread
There’s really something to the whole “defending champions do terribly” thing. Like, Germany is 50% beyern Munich. And imo the top European clubs could beat any of these national teams with very little trouble because of their years of experience together. Logically (if any of that is true) you’d think Germany could smoke teams since half of them spend all year together... but here we are. Maybe they need to have Munich sign more of their guys for next time.

Crazy outcome this morning. I watched England’s first game but missed this one. Miami is England legit or is it just panama?

Re: tSwill Official World Cup Thread
A little of both, Steve. Panama are bad. England are young and they're having fun. They haven't been under a lot of pressure, so I think that helps against the weaker teams. What should have been a big test against Belgium will now be fairly meaningless, as both are already through.
Regarding, Panama, it is worth noting that they don't deserve to be there. On the last (or was it second to last?) day of qualifying they had a phantom goal called good, which ended up being the difference in that particular game and in their qualifying campaign. They would not be there without having a goal counted that never crossed the line. And no, that doesn't mean that the US would be there in their stead. Honduras would have.

I guess the FIFA-covered up Russian doping program is only good enough to get them past the shitty teams.

I like it. I kept forgetting to turn it on that early. And unlike a football game, you can't miss a half hour or you've missed a good chunk of the game. You turn on a "noon" football game a half hour late and it is probably still midway through the first quarter.
Travis, I am building young soccer fans. On vaca and we were down at the pool. Told the kids I was heading up to the room at 2 to watch Portugal/Iran and they joined me. Both teenage girls. The oldest has been into it the last week. Must be the hair.
Also Travis, I will admit, the fouling/diving has not been as nauseous this WC.

Re: tSwill Official World Cup Thread
So your girls went up to watch Ronaldo, Nordic?
An unusually bad penalty from Ronaldo there, btw. He doesn't usually open his body so much and side foot it. He usually blasts it. You know he wanted an easy one there. He's got to be pissed at Harry Kane's luckiest hat trick in history put him ahead in the race for the Golden Boot.

Oh shit Morroco goal. Oldest displeased.
If Iran gets off their ass (big if) does Spain get bounced? I can't do FIFA math.

Re: tSwill Official World Cup Thread
Ronaldo almost sent off. But it was the right call. Yes, he made contact with the guy's face, but that's not a red card or violent conduct. The ball wasn't nearby, but it was a "footballing move", as he was trying to get his arm in front of the Iranian player for leverage to go past him.
