Star Wars was famously an allegory for the Vietnam war. I’ll leave it to the masses to decide if the US was the rebellion or empire
Totally missed that - will need to watch again.
Easier to make a connection with Storm Troopers. No need to watch again.

The Godfather is not a Christmas movie.
But, you should watch it. And Godfather II. Take or leave III.

Any rules around what is an isnt a Christmas movie have been entirely perverted. It doesn’t mean anything anymore. Star Wars is a Christmas movie now fuck you. So is lord of the rings. And Apollo 13? You best believe that is a christmas movie too
Fuck off
Maverick saved xmas. Without him or his team we would not have xmas this year.

Just watched Miracle on 34th Street & Scrooge back to back. The originals, not the shitty remakes.

The original Miracle on 34th Street is "tits" as people would say when I was in High School. Ms Wood is about 7 years old in that and supposedly had a photographic memory so she knew her lines perfectly from day one of shooting.
Not sure what you mean by the original "Scrooge". The musical with Albert Finney?

What do you consider the original Scrooge? They're all remakes.Heat Miser wrote:Just watched Miracle on 34th Street & Scrooge back to back. The originals, not the shitty remakes.

Probably the one made in the 50’s and not the Muppet one with Michael Caine as Scrooge.

There have been a ton of versions, this might be the earliest - The 1938 adaptation of A Christmas Carol movie starred Reginald Owen and was one of the first feature-length productions of the story to hit the silver screen.
However, since Heat said "Scrooge" and not "A Christmas Carol" I'm unsure what he meant, as there have been a number of movies which used "Scrooge" or a variation on that as their title.

The oldest film titled Scrooge is from 1913, and that is a remake of 1908's A Christmas Carol.
I'd assume there were stage productions before those, but I'll leave it to Greenway to speak from personal experience on that.

I like "Scrooge", the Albert Finney musical, for some of its attention to detail of what would have been life in London at the time Dickens wrote it.
The Muppet version is known for Michael Caine playing Scrooge completely straight, which holds it together with all the silliness of the puppets. Also, according to a WEB review, the DVD & movie version cut a critial scene that is in the old VHS & early DVD Extended versions, which emotionally ties it all together, FWIW. My kids and I love the Muppet version.

I'm partial to the George C Scott version, probably because that was on Network TV in prime time every year when I was a kid. I also like Scott in general.
Also a shout to the one with Obi Wan as Marley simply for that reason.
And WKRP in Cincinnati wins my award for best Christmas Carol spoof.

1935. Seymour Hicks as Scrooge. Last night I watched the 2007 colorized version.

Yep. Year Without a Santa Claus. Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. Grinch. Rudolph.
Second tier is Little Drummer Boy, Rudolph's Shiny New Year. Frosty. Charlie Brown.
