Whatcha got?
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is on AMC right now. Top of the list for me.
(If anyone says Die Hard you will be banned)

Re: Best Christmas Movie?
Really this list is for #3 behind It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol.
And that's disqualifying Rudolph and Frosty as not really being movies.

A Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim.
I watched Christmas Vacation last week. It really is a great film.

The best version of A Christmas Carol.
Can you recommend a cartoon or Hallmark version for our Pylon?

This. I’d go with Elf in the third slot; it’s a well written story and Will Ferrell kills it with his Buddy the Elf character. The supporting cast (aside from Bob Newhart) aren’t good actors, but who cares? They’re there to bounce lines off Ferrell.
Die Hard is somewhere in the Top Ten. Screw you, Nordy.

Have you seen Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale?
I mean it's not Die Hard, but it was pretty good for an off the wall movie, right up there with Krampus.

Re: Best Christmas Movie?
I feel like It's A Wonderful Life is thought that because it was one of the first real classics, so we were always told how awesome it is and what a classic it was growing up. But not for me. It's ok, but for me:
1. A Christmas Story - Every minute is brilliant
2. National Lampoons Christmas Vacation - When it came out, as a sequel to Vacation and European Vacation, I was little let down, but probably only because my expectations were based on the others. But it's stood the test of time, and especially as a Christmas movie is top notch.

Is that the one with Obi Wan as his old partner? I like that for Obi Wan.steveschneider wrote:A Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim.
But growing up, the George C Scott one was always on TV, so he kind of set the standard in my head for Scrooge.

Looks like that one is from 1970. I believe Obi wan Kinobi plays an Arab in Lawrence of Olivier. I recall watching it and thinking holy shit that’s Obi Wan Kinobi!

This is the one movie that gave me pause before posting. Very close call.
Elf is excellent as well and easily in the top 5. Along with The Grinch. One of Jim Carrey's best work.

Technically the GG Allin doc has a very small Xmas connection. I wouldn't recommend watching it over the holidays but his birth name was Jesus Christ Allin.

Re: Best Christmas Movie?
WTF...Elf? Will Ferrell has never been funny, except maybe his cheerleader skits on SNL where Cheri Oteri saved his pathetic no-talent ass. I'd rather walk on glass shards than watch any of his movies.
For me it would be White Christmas with It's a Wonderful Life a close second.

You ever seen Talladega Nights or Step Brothers? If you don't think those are funny, there is something very wrong with you.

Re: Best Christmas Movie?
1)Elf is awesome... I hated Will Farrell on SNL, but Elf, Ricky Bobby and Step Bros are classic... some of the best comedies ever. (the frat one is pretty good too)
2)It's a Wonderful Life hands down.
3)The Polar Express sucks balls. Layers and layers of dumb in that movie. Every shot has one "backhand upside a head" Lori Grimes moment... FUCK Kid, you are standing in the North Pole staring at a million little freaks with Santa breathing on you and it STILL takes a minute to hear the fucking bell? DAMN.
