That’s fine Liverpool won’t make the champions league next year anyway.

Yeah I've got to imagine the leagues want a cut instead of just the big clubs getting it all. You are really going to tell these players they can't play in the world cup come on lol

If they get their way it would replace the Champions League, but having exclusive teams, without any basis in merit. They talk of including 5 non founding member clubs, but will give them far less money than the founders, regardless of where they finish. Thay way they can keep "outside" teams from earning too much and being able to attract players. It is an attempt by some clubs to make CL money without having to earn their way there. It is anti-competitive and anti-sporting.
It is a fucking disaster. Imagine UM, OSU, PSU, and Nebraska getting together with Texas, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Florida State, USC, Oklahoma, and a few others, and deciding that they're starting their own College Football Playoff. And the rest of the schools can't participate...or maybe they allow a couple of others to come and go for a year, if they decide to invite them.
Of course the fuckwad Glazers are behind it. And for that, the Premier League brought this shit on themselves. They could have (should have) not allowed their hostile takeover of United. They took a club with zero debt, saddled it with £800m in debt and never spent a fucking penny to own the club before or since. And the Premier League looked the other way, just as they did when a Russian Mob boss bought Chelsea a couple of years earlier and when a murderous, torturous dictatorial regime bought City a couple of years later. You reap what you sow, and the Premier League's own greed sowed these seeds. And the irony of it is that the Premier League is itself a breakaway league (though at least they stayed somewhat within the same relegation/promotion rules).
Fuck all of these owners/executives. They're the antithesis of The Beautiful Game.

I agree that the billionaires who control major teams are screwing with a system that’s endured for ages all the while the games has become more popular. Like everything else they are looking at TV rights,
Liverpool is owned by Fenway Holdings that also owns the Boston Red Sox (John Henry)
Arsenal majority owner is Kroenke Sports and Entertainment that also owns the LA Rams, Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets (Walmart money).
Stank Kroenke did buyout Usmanov (Russian oil and gas Billionaire) a few years ago when oil prices dropped)
Interestingly no moves announced from Germany’s Bundesliga

Holy fuck!!!
It'll be interesting to see if first - this actually becomes a thing. Second... if PSG, Dortmund, and Bayern cave and join.

Maybe, but when most, if not all, of the clubs involved released statements about it, it feels more than just negotiation. Either way it is much further along than any attempts before. If it doesn't go through, it is just kicking the can down the road, and will have to be dealt with again in a few years.
UEFA announced their new plans for the CL this morning, which had already been widely reported in recent weeks. It is also less merit-based, giving spots to historic clubs that don't qualify. That's awful, too, but at least most of the teams will earn there way there.

Bundesliga has fan ownership. Bayern may end up joining. If it goes through, it will be hard not to.
PSG is a little different. One of their top execs sits on the UEFA board, and also on the board of a TV company that has billions of dollars worth of broadcasting rights tied in with UEFA.
Spurs are the only one of the 6 English teams involved to actually have an English owner.

A college football playoff that excludes the smaller teams would be really difficult to imagine
Do the same teams play in it every year, even if they are sub-.500 teams?
Or if you don't like that analogy, how about the NFL revamp the playoffs so that every year the Cowboys, Patriots, Giants, Jets, Washington, 49ers, Texans, Bears, Eagles, and Packers are automatically in and then allow a couple of other teams in based on merit. Oh, and make it so the guaranteed teams get make virtually the same whether they win or lose in the playoffs, and much more than the "at large" teams get even if they win.

I think they knew that they were going to get rid of him by the end of the year, but it would be a lot harder to fire him after he wins the first trophy that the club has had in over a decade. Smart move. They don't want that to obscure the toxicity that he brought. He has a career full of evidence that once things start to go south with him, it does not recover. It just gets more toxic and more miserable until he finally gets fired.
Besides, they're playing City, and he's never had a team in a League Cup final that was an underdog whatsoever, so that record would likely have gone by the wayside.

anyone that calls himself the special one is probably not my type of person..
the timing of this does seem odd, but maybe as you said miami, do it now and get the toxicity out now, why wait to see what happens sunday? I wonder if City is playing their top squad, probably doesn't matter?
does the timing mean someone is lined up? I'm hearing rumblings about the guy at RB Leipzeg? honestly, i'm just excited to see if the next guy plays some attacking football because it seems like the spurs got defensive with a lead and then blew a lead to a draw or a loss. when the defense clearly is the spurs weak point right now.
also- does harry kane stick around considering we are automatically in the super league?
what a time.. lots of shit going on..

I didn't really phrase it the best, as it more has to do with recent history, but this is the part I was referring to:
The final two places will go to the clubs with the highest club coefficient over the last five years that have not qualified for the Champions League group stage but have qualified either for the Champions League qualification phase, the Europa League or the Europa Conference League.
So it's the opportunity to get there not based on merit, but how you performed in previous years, that is pretty stupid.

The Leipzig guy (Nagelsman?) is definitely one of the up and coming coaches in Europe whose name gets bandied around every time an opening at a good sized club opens up. He'd be a good get, I think. With only a month left in the season, I doubt they'll bring in anyone that is currently managing right away. You would think they've held discussions with some people already, maybe even have a gentleman's agreement already. I'm sure they'll want to get that announced soon so that the new guy can try to keep Kane.

Would be nice if they took that stand though. Including the Europa League, which has United and Arsenal in the semis. They could at least have a final there.
But if they go ahead with the semis in those tournaments as is, what kind of refereeing are the breakaway teams going to get? What are they going to get in their domestic leagues? And will anyone really notice, since refereeing and VAR are so shitty anyway?

but what is the "for the fans" piece? That seems like some hyperbole shit
No, this is an affront to fans.
Fan groups were not consulted at all.
The ESL teams have reportedly said that they don't have to worry about losing the "legacy fans", and that this is about reaching new markets (North America and Asia, primarily). Completely taking the fans for granted.
And beyond their own fans, perhaps more importantly, is what it does to every fan of every other club in every level. They basically told them, "Your team will never play with the big boys". Teams like Leicester City, and West Ham that are both right in the mix for Champions League spots. And no more hopes and dreams of smaller clubs in lower leagues getting to that level.
Most of these clubs, at least in England, were started by poor, working class people, as the teams for workers at mills, railroads, etc. "Created by the poor, stolen by the rich" reads a sign outside Old Trafford today.
Obviously, this is something I feel strongly about, so forgive me if I'm ranting too much.

They’re not wrong about legacy fans tbh. Very few are going to stop watching games and fewer yet will not be watching them in 5 years.
Having the term legacy fans get out there is not exactly great pr in the short term. But they’re not wrong
