You gotta toe the line. Spend too much time watching the Lions and questions about their needs start popping in your head, like whether or not they need a QB because of Goffs play. Next thing you know, you’re cheering for the team again. It’s both subtle and so obvious. Be careful.

That’s not really telling the story though. The defense is markedly different after the first 7 games vs what it was in the first 7 where just saying they were in last replace was inadequate to explain how bad they were.

I don’t know what a DB coach does or why firing him made such a difference but that guy really sucked.

DO NOT draft a QB. If you need one, go buy one. It worked for TB and LA. QB is so far down the list of needs right now.

Goff's dead cap hit this year was 43 million - they were not letting him go. Next year that drops to only 10 million so it possible you could see some movement and a trade become possible.

Goff's salary for 2023 and 2024 are 30.5 million and 31.5 million. A lot, especially for when he signed it - now it is high, but no where near the top (Aaron Rodgers 50.2 million).

Teams always look to draft the hall of famer, but the majority of high first round QB's are less successful than Goff.

IMO the best move for the Lions is to use both first rounders on defense.

Lamar, Watson and Mahomes were first round picks but only Mahomes was top ten (10th).  Wilson was a third rounder.

I am not disagreeing with you as my previous post implies - drafting a QB is a crap shoot at best.  Watson (12th) and Mahomes were in the same draft - a draft that had Trubisky selected ahead of them (2nd overall).  

Brady wasn't bought per se, he signed a FA contract at WAY less than his market value.  LA won the super bowl last year, but their first round pick is looking pretty good for the Lions right now.  That was a rare trade that worked out for both teams.

Yards are a better overall indicator for a defense. Points can be skewed by a lot of things. Rodgers' 3 picks (at the Lions 5, 1, and 22). Giants 3 turnovers (Lions 14 points off turnovers). Bears scored 30. Bills scored 28. Lions give up ~27 on average. Dead last. Jags are the only real outlier. I expect Cousins and the Vikings to put up 30+.

It helps that so many of the big winning teams are either aging out and dropping or are in the process of rebuilding and headed upward. Seems like Rozelle’s goal of parity but with the quality of play at a level below what fans are used to. JMO.
