Is Dennard to Baltimore not the perfect pick especially given that JohnHaraugh is now an honorary Spartan?

Doesnt it, also, basically mean that his chances of landing with a winner is increasing?

The TE? Easy answer... The front office needs to make the playoffs this year, and one defensive player won't help. Having a ridiculously good offense might.d_mcc wrote:Someone explain this?

Making the playoffs, maybe. Advancing, not at all.

No blocking skills? According to whom? He played 50% of his snaps outside, blocked just fine the other 50, and broke Vernon Davis's TE record for yardage in his league.

I'm looking forward to the first time LeVeon Bell turns the corner and is met by Denard. That picture MUST be put up in the new recruiting room. Doesn't matter if you're an offensive player or defensive player or more important a two star, Dantonio can get you there.

Unless Bell goes to hurdle Dennard and Bells' crotch ends up in Dennard's facemask...then, yeah, let's wait until the second time.

Correct, read one of those "sources" on twitter saying the Lions want to trade up in the 2nd round for Vanderbilt WR Jordan Matthews. If that happens, the Lions have absolutely no sense of football. The first mistake would have been not cleaning house when they fired Millen, Mayhew is becoming Mayhew 2.0. Great the team might score 35-40 points, but when you are giving up 45+ a game you are still going to finish 4-12........AGAIN.

Exactly. People acting like this guy could be Jimmy Graham are delusional. Let's first look at measurables:
Graham: 6'6" 260lbs. 35" arms and 10 5/8" hands. 4.56 40 and 38.5" vertical
Ebron: 6'4" 250lbs. 33 1/4" arms and 10" hands. 4.60 40 and 32" vertical
While Ebron's college stats are obviously much better, he wasn't a significant red zone threat. Graham had more TDs in his one season (after not playing football for years) than Ebron had in any of his 3.
So, to summarize, Ebron is smaller (in every respect), slower, can't jump very high, and has never shown significant red zone skills. Doesn't sound like a Jimmy Graham type in any way.

It worries me that Ebron said he will be better than Jimmy Graham, without ever playing a goddamn snap. This guy is full of hubris and his overblown ego is already annoying.

Wasn't a need? Really? Let's see...
Resigning Pettigrew. Great move. Now, how many TEs did Det rotate last year? 3. Do you remember healthy Tony Sheffler? Do you remember the first 6 games or so when he was healthy, and played at the same time as Pettigrew? All the mismatches he had downfield, and how easily Det moved the ball, and how much confidence they played with on both sides of the ball? Do you remember the role of Fauria last year? Red Zone. Not anywhere near as successful outside of it. Do you remember how Det played in the first 6 games, with a healthy Sheffler?
Now...Det has Mathis, Houston, Slay who they are very high on still, as well as Bentley who played well when healthy and Greenwood. This is a far better d backfield than 4 years ago, when they left everyone wide open. They signed the Balt Safety who will make a big difference in the run game.

You must not follow that closely if you mentioned Houston. He is hurt (bad toe I hear) and the Lions themselves have questioned whether he will return to form in 2014 -- and that's a big blow. That's one DB down. You are going to put trust in Slay, or even Bentley for that matter? Yes, Idegbo was a good sign but he and Glover Quinn need help. A secondary is more than two guys. I know there weren't any world beaters at #10, no Patrick Petersons, but c'mon ...make an attempt to be better on the side of the ball that you sucked. It's common sense. Maybe it would be a little reach, but nobody would care if the guy -- be it Dennard or Clinton Dix or Gilbert -- produced right away. Yeah, the Lions will score 30 and other teams will score 37.

So they measured his vertical as being 5" better than what he did at the combine and chose not to redo at his Pro Day? Doubt that's accurate. Half the stuff they said in the video was idiotic. "He would push JJ Watt 2 feet." Yeah because JJ Watt is suspended in the air, motionless at the snap of the ball. "His hands are 30% larger than the average male." Umm, OK. How about compared to other NFL TEs?
The guy is known for being as arrogant as they come, doesn't have much in line blocking experience, and has a propensity to drop passes. The apt comparison is Kellen Winslow Jr., not Jimmy Graham or Rob Gronkowski. Does anyone think Kellen Winslow Jr. was worth a top 10 pick now?

The Lions problems with DBs is coaching. Throwing more 1st round picks at the problem won't fix it. Teryl Austin needs to fix the DB problem through good coaching. Plus, there's more than one round to the draft FYI. People complain about spending a pick on a 3rd TE (who is basically a WR) but you don't have a problem spending it on a 3rd safety? I'd imagine they'll spend one of the 5 picks they have from rounds 2 to 4 on some DBs, ones that Austin thinks he can mold into contributors.
Taking off the green-colored googles, I don't think any DB (Dennard included) was worth it at #10. I didn't like the Ebron pick at the time but as the next 5-10 teams picked there wasn't a single player that jumped out at me as "DAMN we should have picked him".
