Re: tOfficial 2014 NFL Draft thread
Few things: Barr and Evans were gone, and spewan was on board.
Insiders have been saying that Det feels good about the DBs they have, including Slay, Bentley & Greenwood.
Lots of quality WRs in this draft.
This is not a wasted pick, at 10 there wasn't one guy you needed to get after Barr & Evans went off the board. Fauria is not a blocking TE at all, and this kid is a pure stud.

They really couldn't trade the pick? They could have dropped and gotten Dennard, Clinton-Dix...???

Already resigned Brandon Pettidrop, no need for another TE.
Lions will score 35 points a game and give up 45+ and go 4-12 again.

Because you only need 1 TE. And Fauria is a red zone threat, not every-down TE.
This is a solid pick. Let's see who else they draft, then you can judge it in a better context.

Correct, the Lions only need 1 TE.
They have Pettidrop resigned already.
Now they have Fauria and Ebron as hybrid guys? Awesome, they have much more GLARING needs in the secondary. I bet they could have traded back 5-10 spots and still got Ebron.

If Manziel slides to the Cowboys, ESPN is going to explode. Bristol will become a modern day Atlantis; flooded and lost to the world forever, only it will be covered in cum from the circlejerk.

Re: tOfficial 2014 NFL Draft thread
This was a terrible pick. I don't follow any of this 1/100th as closely as I did ten years ago, but did anyone think this guy was a transcendent, once in a generation talent at TE? That is the only way you take a TE in the Top 10. Especially if you're a team with glaring weaknesses trying to "win now". If you're the Patriots who happen to have a top ten pick fall into their laps due to a trade or something, sure, go for it. Lions? beyond dumb. LOL so much.
In order for this pick to be considered quality, this guy needs to put up 70+ catches next year and 8+ TDs. And stay on the field for 4 downs. Yes, 4. He should play special teams, too. That would justify it.
Otherwise, someone needs to force these suits in Allen Park to have some accountability and ask them why they continue to play the offseason, and the draft in particular, like they're coming off their 3rd straight NFC Championship appearance.

lol fool. Petigrew will move to a traditional TE, mostly blocking. New guy hopefully can create match up issues with LBs and provide a third passing option. It spreads the field out AND opens up the running game. TE is the new slot receiver in the league. look at what orange julius did in Denver. Vernon Davis in SF, Jimmy in NO. It's a bit of a gamble but there is huge upside.

If you needed a 3rd receiving option, why not draft bekcham

Still going to give up 45+ a game on D, terrible pick. Reached for him big time, could have traded back and still got him.
When the Lions are 4-12 again next year, we will see who the fool is.

It's about match ups. Lions have a guy that stretches the field (CJ), a speed receiver (Taint), and now a big TE that forces the D into an awkward situation. If they cover with a safety, that leaves the WR's in single coverage. If they cover with a LB, that's a passing mismatch. A LB won't be able to cover down field. We saw last year the emergence of several TE's because of matchup problems
