Maryland Firing Rand Edsal
Are you sure it's not spelled Edsel?
You get beat by Michigan like that, you'd get fired too.

Maryland and Rutgers were great additions to the conference when looking at the athletics side of things.

At least when Minny, IU, PU and Illinois were added it wasn't for TV viewership.Rocinante wrote:Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:Maryland and Rutgers were great additions to the conference when looking at the athletics side of things.

Add Nebraska to that as well. The 3 schools have sucked royally at football.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:Maryland and Rutgers were great additions to the conference when looking at the athletics side of things.

I like Nebraska. Who should the B1G have taken? UNC and Duke?

This will take the edge off of the PSU Maryland game. Damn, I was loving that rivalry. Didn't Maryland give PSU the "fuck you" after the game last year.

Athletics side of things was not close to being a top priority.
We already have like 8 of the top 25 basketball programs of all time and like 7 of the top 25 in football. We dont need more of those.
We needed to add huge population bases and expand the footprint for recruiting and stuff.

Ask Tom Izzo and Suzy Merchant if they think adding Maryland was an automatic 1-3 wins to every conference season.
Was a time not long ago Rutgers football was doing so well umaa got turned down by their coach.

I would have liked to have seen Missouri (who wanted to join Nebraska at the time) and Pitt.
But Paterno was still influencial and he would have been as bad as Fritz Crisler trying to block MSU. PSU is the only Big Ten school in that football rich PA.
Missouri got bypassed due to adademic qualifiers (CIC).
Big Ten West division with MN, WI, IA, NU, IL, NE and MO
Big Ten East with MSU, OSU, IU, PU, PSU, umaa and Pitt would have been killer.
The only think it lacked was the huge cable subscriber population Rutgers and Maryland brought. However in the cold dark Midwest basketball ratings would have still been through the roof.

Pitt would have been good, I thought the Petino thing had already been played out before we added the two we did.GRR Spartan wrote:InTenSity wrote:I like Nebraska. Who should the B1G have taken? UNC and Duke?

I was ok with MD, at least they came from the ACC and have won a NC in a major sport in the last 15 years. Rutgers made no sense to me whatsoever, although I understand the wanting the TV's.
I think that ultimately a good product is much better than forcing a shitty product down people's throats. People are interested in watching the SEC, not because they were brought up watching it, but because they supposedly put out a good product.
Its a blunder, so I can't wait for the next round of expansion, which will add 6 more teams, and the divisions will be called: The Big 10 and The Big East.

Maryland is currently denying firing Edsall.
Maryland's AD robably couldn't get a hold of Kevin Plank to see if he's decided on Edsall's replacement.

Why they wait so long, did he recently pass some megamillion buyout milestone?

Re: Maryland Firing Rand Edsal
Edsall signed a 3 year extension but his buy out is "only" $500K which can be paid out of Maryland's first BTN check they got in July.

Re: Maryland Firing Rand Edsal
Its official but why fire him after week 6? Any coach worth getting would be available after the last week of the season and most athletic departments can hire a search agent or firm to contact coaches' agents so everyone has deniability.
