Can't wait. Was at the Woods n Water show on Saturday. Always a great weekend for picking up some much needed equipment. Plus had an elk burger. So good.

Did you shoot the elk yourself? Are you allowed to hunt the ones in the Atlanta area? I have always found it really cool/fascinating that there are elk in MI. Would love to see them.TheReal_LWS wrote:Can't wait. Was at the Woods n Water show on Saturday. Always a great weekend for picking up some much needed equipment. Plus had an elk burger. So good.

No, this was sold by a vendor at the WnWs show. So it was farmed elk. Still awesome though. They had buffalo too. Also had a venison hotdog.

I do not think there is any legal elk hunting in the lower peninsula. UP only. And it is very difficult to get a tag. And once you get one, you can never get another one for the rest of your life. So you better fill it!

Elk are in the northern part of the lower peninsula, around Gaylord and Wolverine, Pigeon River area. I've applied for a permit every year since they started allowing hunting and never been drawn. They started the permit process in 1984, 100 permits/year. You used to be able to be able to get drawn more than once and a few people did, it just looked kind of shady so maybe that's why they quit allowing it.

SOOOOO... What's the law in hunting with a crossbow in semi-populated areas?
I know shooting you need to be so many hundred yards away (or have approval) from every house or some shit.
I'm on the edge of a town and have a deer problem. There are wooded areas around and I could be in a "shoot as much as you want" township across my back yard.
If I get a crossbow, can I just sit in the backyard and take the SOBs out?

Some of those MFn deer get the permanent darkness....
They are so bold and numerous, they don't even move off the road when a car comes. You have to yell at them and motion toward them. The subdivision is infested like giant rats.

If the township doesn't have a firearm ordinance, have at it. You need to be 450 feet away from the nearest residence if you use a weapon, not sure if that includes a crossbow or not. You also need a license for each and every deer you kill, depending upon where you're at you might be limited to one license, other places you can get unlimited licenses. MiDNR has a rules book they publish every year. If you're out hunting and piss off the DNR officer bad enough I'm pretty sure there's a rule buried somewhere in that book that he can write you up on.

And that's where your wrong. I'm strapped, yo. Got a damn arsenal up in my house.
NRA is for those who can't pass a background check (cause they crazy) or hit the broad side of a barn (need 15 semi-auto shots when 1 will generally do the trick).

Re: Deer Hunting Thread #2
You are in Michigan Bee... there used to be a generation of hunters who knew the difference between politics ($ & 1% class warfare) and their hunting hobby. With the decline of the unions and the rise of the NRA, it's getting rarer, but I believe the vast majority of the houses in MI still have guns and the majority oppose the NRA policies.

I don’t think I’ve ever said that. Again, another assumption because of a lack of critical thinking skills.

You probably should on account of that being a pretty universally understood fact. Hell even trump acknowledges that fact these days (sometimes. He’s not a consistent man.) lws doesn’t even know enough to know what he’s supposed to blindly defend.

I just mounted one of these bad boys on my Tenpoint Titan HLX and now it won't fit in it's hard case. That's even without the IR illuminator on it that sticks out another 3 inches on the left hand side (you can see the mounting bracket in this pic).... Anyone know where I can get a hard case with a shit ton of head room for a scope?

Re: Deer Hunting Thread #2
This is the big 8 that I wanted to shoot so badly last year. I have thousands of pics of he and his brother (another nice 8, but this one is better), but this is the only time I got him in the day time on film. Late morning on Halloween.
After the season was over, in the middle of January, I went and pulled my card on this camera. When I got home, it was no longer in my pocket where I thought I had put it. I don't known if it fell out when I took my phone out or if I just dropped it somehow.... I've been sick ever since because I still don't know if either of these deer made it. I haven't got a pic of either one yet this year and my cams have been out for almost three months now.
This is pre-rut when they were still homies. I guess the other one wasn't as nice as I remember. The one on the right, if he made it through last year, has got to be a bruiser this year...

On the crossbow case, good luck. You might need to go to a softside case.
