To slow flow of grad transfers, NCAA could constrain schools

The NCAA Division I Council is expected to vote by Friday on an amendment that would require a grad transfer to count against a team’s scholarship total for two years, no matter how much eligibility the player has left when they arrive. An exception would be made for athletes who complete graduate degree requirements before the start of the second year.

Would also apply to hoop. Sadly, not retroactively to stop Texas Tech's run to the FF.

Weird that he wants out after only spring practice. Of course, I’d have trouble focusing on anything but beer & the ladies at UF, although I think the FSU women are easier.

These two articles are localized versions of the same national story about the out-of-control costs of college football recruiting. Not surprisingly, the SEC outspends most, but not all other schools. Overall, the B1G is fourth in spending among conferences, beating out the PAC12.
The first piece is more generalized but mentions Louisville and Kentucky, and it includes the info on spending and percentage increase from 2013-18 for all P5 schools, including MSU.
The second story takes a harder look at Florida State football and how spending went — inexplicably — way over budget, and how the new AD is trying to reign it in.
BTW, u-m spends double what we do on recruiting. Oh, and it must be true about how much boats cost their owners, because Minny is now outspending us, too.

I dont really have time to read the articles, so apologies if this is discussed, but I would think that location of schools and talent pools has a lot to do with it. Ohio is by far the biggest talent pool in the Midwest and Minny is further from there than almost every other B1G school. Rutgers and Maryland might even be closer or similar distances, but they are closer to the East Coast talent pool.

Michigan (1) will finally beat Ohio State. And still will lose three games and not win the Big Ten East and the fan base won’t know what the hell to do with Jim Harbaugh. It’ll want his head on a pike after a stunning upset loss in Week 2 to Army, of course. And when the Wolverines lose at Penn State on Oct. 19. And they’ll really be hostile after a home upset loss to Michigan State on Nov. 16. But when Michigan finally gets over on the opponent it hates the most — releasing a spasm of Buckeye anger directed at Ryan Day and Justin Fields and Urban Meyer for leaving — Big Blue and Harbaugh will have to decide whether they can do a sixth year together.
