It's only real on the far extremes. I know plenty of people on the right who are freaking out, and the only person on the left that I know that is at all close to "end of the world" mode is you, steve.
Not really just listen to Valenti today. If Covid 19 is his topic you'll hear some really interesting calls.

I have a meeting this afternoon that was moved from being in person to now being on google hangouts. No idea how that's going to go, as I've never used it for a group meeting. But the client is the one that decided to use that and is setting it up, so it's on them if it sucks.

A common theme I’m seeing and honestly it’s with younger people 25-40 is how it’s affecting them financially. They’re getting hammered in their 401k and they want someone to blame. I’ve seen multiple market crashes, wars, oil embargoes etc. it’s like they’ve never experienced a crisis and have no clue how to handle it.

I cannot get in the headspace of someone who, as soon as an emergency happens, thinks “how can I profit off this?” Like I would NEVER think to go buy up masks or hand sanitizer or toilet paper to resell at a profit during an emergency. It just wouldn’t occur to me and it sickens me that it occurs to anyone. People like that are lost.

When I was 25-40 I wasn't freaking out. At 59 I'm kind of freaking out.

He did say that it's "like" they've never seen a crisis before. Most of the 25-40 group that he mentioned were not in the market, or only just barely, back in 2008. Big difference in one's 401K amounts (and the ups and downs in terms of dollars) when you're 28 vs 40.

Re: Coronavirus?? We gone?
I’m so impressed with my employer. I just got off a conference call, which of course, they reminded everyone to stay home and do what you can. But they said that they expect everyone to have lots of interruptions with this going on (ie kids at home, taking care of elderly parents, etc), and that they said put your family first. They will support us, and want us to try and do what we can from home. Which is huge, because my job really can’t be done full time from home.
So I’m impressed and super grateful of the position I am in.

Yeah I get it but I don’t think 40 year olds were completely unaware of their surroundings when they were 28 and at risk for losing their jobs and such. If you were at least 22 in 2008 I’d think your job with absolutely nothing to fall back on is plenty of skin in the game, if not more than just some temporary 401k losses.

The ones I’ve been exposed to weren’t really invested in the market or their 401k. At least not deeply. We’ve  been on a rise since 08 and this is their first “crash” if you will, where they’re losing money. Albeit paper money. These same young bucks didn’t bat an eye losing $500 at a casino 12 years ago living at mom and dads. Now that they’re home owners and own debt and start looking at retirement savings, they’re freaking out.

As someone in that age bracket that you defined, I can tell you definitively that that is incorrect. I’m not going to continue with the back and forth because it’s stupid semantics, but it’s wildly off base from how those people were actually effected back then.

I clearly stated “A common theme I’m seeing”. So no, I’m not definitely incorrect. Maybe you should stop taking post personally. Your case isn’t everyone else’s case. A 25 year old would have been 13 in 08’ btw. How heavily invested would they have been in their retirement? A 40 year old would have been 28. How heavily invested would they have been 4-6 years into their adult professional life vs today?

I think the vast majority of people lie in between these two extremes. It's just that these extreme viewpoints align with very specific political ideologies.

It doesn’t surprise me that a company in the healthcare industry is being proactive, but the part about caring for your families and yourself first is genuinely good to hear. There’s not enough of those type of companies around, and yours is setting an excellent example.

My daughter's dreams of sleeping in and doing her remote learning whenever she wants has been shattered. She didn't have school today (even originally it was an off day) and remote learning starts tomorrow. They're expected to be on their chromebooks by 8:15, and must check in with their homeroom teacher by 8:30 via a zoom link for attendance. They also will be having face-to-face interaction with all of their teachers via Zoom, and have to maintain the school dress code for non-uniform days (I was hoping they'd make them wear their uniforms for remote learning, that would have been a solid troll job by the school).

I know Trump makes many of your skin crawl, but a lot of info in the latest presser from a number of different people.
Biggest take away, new CDC guidelines urges Americans to avoid gatherings of 10 or more for the next 15 days. Including in you home.
