I can't speak to the older guys, but I think for Gen X/Y like myself and Nordic, this is absolutely a cataclysmic life defining event. Second only to, if not up there with 9/11. I don't know what kind of shit y'all went through with Vietnam and whatnot.

Now...if you were to choose to ignore the directive & remain open, I doubt the cops would come and chain your doors & arrest you. However, they could do something like direct your customers to disperse (public health risk) under threat of arrest and/or issue citations with fines to the business that would offset any potential profit from remaining open. Longer term, they could revoke your business/liquor license.

I owned my own place for 24 years and still have family in the business so I understand the rules and regulations. In this case, it's an emergency order from the governor and it's unprecedented. It's nothing like a health code or liquor law violation.

According to the director of the MLBA, there is nothing the establishments can do to fight it.

In times of emergency, governments absolutely can institute restrictions on people and businesses. Plenty of precedent for this.

Home quarantine will be next.

All these moves are necessary, and I get it. But I feel awful for small business owners. And everyone who is afraid of not getting a paycheck. My heart just aches for everyone.

The government HAS to do something for the majority of the people. Whst sucks is it will take too damn long for that to happen, and only after the banks and wall street peeps get their assistance.

Yeah, the F&B industry has probably been largely immune to things like this, except maybe night time shut downs during blackouts in WWII, or maybe localized shut downs during hurricanes, but that's just a day or two.

Exactly. They kept saying yesterday that the recent bill passed is just the 2nd inning, and there is a lot more to do. There needs to be. The effects will be long-reaching.

My good friends opened a new restaurant literally opened in February and they are already talking about shutting down. They had a large kitchen staff, bar staff, and took on a huge expense to renovate the place. They had an incredible business model and the place was doing well just had the most unbelievable bad luck.

Most are starting to come around. Last Thur I was still getting the standard issue flu/common cold txts from people. That mindset is changing quickly. But there are still going to some that don't get.

People need to realize it is not about them, but those that could have issues.

With everyone working from home, Skype/WebEx is getting tasked hard this morning.

People still use Skype? Slack all day.

We switched to MS Teams last year and it's typically pretty great.
