Thank God you bought an ICE vehicle, Trapper. You don't have to worry that it will catch on fire while parked.
CNBC list of Ford ICE recalls
Not my vehicle, so you are correct, but not because it is ICE.

Seems like if the person filing the lawsuit knows exactly what's wrong with the vehicle causing it to lose power that they would notify Ford to help correct the problem.
Ford knows about the issue and has already issued a recall. The recall has two actions: a software change to keep the vehicle from operating in such a way that can damage to contactors; and contactor replacement for those which have been damaged.

Having displayed his ignorance on recalls RQA pivots to showing what we already know.

It's funny that the two things you've been whining about the most are high gas prices...and EVs. You're a silly person.

That poster will blame Governor Whitmer regardless.
Does anyone, besides me, think that Ford "C Suite" guys are over reacting to the changing market?
I'm questioning the spliting the company and the idea of going to an order only selling model. I, for one, really like to test drive before purchasing.

From what I've seen dealers will still have autos to test drive and that's where you would pick up your new car. Of course the dealers are still going to want to add on their $1000 wax job and sell you another warranty that the manufacturer already provides with the car.
Online ordering is really the way to go. You can take your time and order exactly what you need and want without some high pressure salesman trying to sell you floor mats with gold trim.

I guess that will work for some, sales people don't bother some people.
This is all about more money for Ford, instead of the dealerships. They will lose some customers and gain others, I guess.

Re: Electric Vehicles - Information & Updates
Ford has been trying to shead dealerships for at least 3 decades.
Back in the day Henry Ford had a see lightning / hear thunder can you pay for inventory on credit for Ford Model T’s. When Ford began building tractors Ford dealerships sold both before many split off or dropped their tractor franchise.
However buried in the details in the tractor dealership contracts was language allowing the Ford Ag division to sell Ford trucks too.
Using GR as an example, Ford has 4 dealerships plus a stand alone Lincoln dealership. Toyota has 2, Honda has 2, Nissan has 2, Chevrolet has 4 but they count Hudsonville, Caledonia and Comstock Park as GR although the 3 are 15-20 miles outside GR.
Chevrolet lost/closed 3 GR dealerships in the last 15-20 years.

Not me. I "built" my last purchase online and sent specs to local dealerships... I bought from the one who didn't fuck around with me in the town 20 min away....(instead of the 2 in my town who tried to sell existing inventory, change requirements, etc.).
Dealerships add nothing to the experience. Just a legally bound (in Michigan) ancient way of doing business and should go away.
Of course in most many small/medium towns in Michigan the guy that owns (inherited) the car dealership is one of the richest and most influential on the political side of things... but that's a different conversation.

People seem to think they can't walk away from that type of salesmanship, however, sometimes the sakesman does sell something more that the buyer likes, too, so its a mixed bag.
Have to see how it works out, but for small towns if the dealers are less profitable the town's economy will be hurt.
As an aside, during the 2008 auto bailout there were plenty of Congress people who said "fuck Detroit" only to get calls from all the dealerships in their districts and suddenly changing their minds.
We maintain a working relationship with our hometown dealer and thus they treat us nicely. A dealer is more likely to pull the high pressure sales stuff on you if they don't know you. There are dealers who make that their stock in trade, but they get little repeat business.

https://www.motortrend.com/news/gm-ultium-platform-technology-explained/
Ultium is not a "skateboard," per se, as the vehicles it's scheduled to underpin will use vastly different suspensions and frames tailored to their very different use cases. But what Ultium really is (listen up if you're a shareholder) is GM's roadmap to profitably electrifying its fleet by sharing as much of the pricey hardware as possible: the battery cells and monitoring system, the essential motor architecture, and the operating system. This makes the unseen electrified underpinnings scalable across the product portfolio. To wit: GM envisions some 19 battery and motor combinations. Contrast that with today's staggering portfolio of 550 combustion-powertrain combinations.

Toyota made the wrong bet on this disruptive technology, and they are jawboning, mostly to keep their stock price up, to cover up for that fact. Typical corporate behavior, which has little to do with the technological reality.

To be fair about what Toyota is saying, there will be supply issues with battery production, however, the magical invisible hand of the market (Adam Smith) will deal with those. Toyota, as like most Japanese companies, is not ready for major disruptions. The US and EU companies are investing heavily in electric vehicle tech, including batteries, while Toyota has gone in a different direction.

axios wrote:Most electric car buyers don't switch back to gas (I would have said "Many" not "Most" - TG)
Roughly two-thirds (65.3%) of EV-owning households that bought a new car in 2022 got another electric. That's up sharply from the second quarter of 2021, when about 48% of EV-owning households in the market for a new car bought another EV.
The U.S. lags China and Europe when it comes to EV adoption, but the market is clearly shifting.
The number of EV models available in the U.S. jumped from 27 in July 2021 to 45 a year later. That number is expected to reach almost 150 by 2025, per S&P Global Mobility.
EVs accounted for 5.8% of all new cars registered nationally in July, up from 3.4% a year ago. California remains the leading U.S. electric car market. In San Francisco, EVs accounted for a third of all July registrations. Texas is also seeing strong EV growth in places like Austin and Dallas, where EVs accounted for 9.6% and 8.6% of July new car registrations, respectively.

FWIW salt water is just as likely to start fires in ICE cars, though depending on where in the car they may be easier to put out.
A drop of salt water from 12VDC to "Ground" will create heat and burn if the path is burnable material, such as a circuit board.
The management of these car companies, btw, has to add the dumping of electric cars into salt water and then pulling them out as a "use case" which has to have safety measures designed to prevent firs, no question about that. Why hasn't the right-wing nut job hero, Musk, designed his cars to survive that without burning?

https://www.autonews.com/manufacturing/toyotas-emerging-plan-ev-reboot?utm_source=dont-miss&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20221024&utm_content=hero-readmore
Toyota Motor Corp. is considering a reboot of its electric vehicle strategy to better compete in a booming market it has been slow to enter, and has halted some work on existing EV projects, four people with knowledge of the still-developing plans told Reuters.
The proposals under review, if adopted, would amount to a dramatic shift for Toyota and rewrite the $38-billion EV rollout plan the Japanese automaker announced last year to better compete with the likes of Tesla TSLA.O.
A working group within Toyota has been charged with outlining plans by early next year for improvements to its existing EV platform or for a new architecture, the four individuals said.
