I guess the answer to that is that it is complicated.

Some dealers sell on consignment, and the supplier sets the price.

Prices are often set on the replacement costs for what is not in the tanks, not what is in the tanks.

Some independent dealers sell below cost to draw customers into the store to buy "bags of high margin "chips""

Prices at the pump go up before increases in the wholesale cost but down only when dropping sales at a station, or chain of stations, reduces sales.

edit - the cost of "oil" makes up about 70% if the wholesale cost of gas. Thus, the Saudis control 70% of the cost of gas.

Property tax, Sales tax, tolls. We supposedly have a budget surplus, but I believe most of that is due to not using pandemic funds and keeping it.
I just looked and with getting a new roof, being hurricane prepared, my insurance went up 20% this year, from $3800 to $4400 a year. That's with a $17k hurricane deductible. I'm hearing stories of people having their insurance jump from $4k to $7-8k especially if they don't have anything to have hurricane resistance, IE impact windows, garage, doors and especially roof.

But our wonderful governor is calling out Apple and NOT SOCIALIST!!!
