As long as it jams Springsteen on the entertainment system, Bob doesn't care.
I hope that's okay with Zurn/RQA and his church.. ya know, that she's allowed to make her own decisions.

Oh no, the tech is better, always has been. ICE's which waste 70% plus of the energy input has always been a poor technology.

Re: Electric Vehicles - Information & Updates
Meanwhile, since I started this thread, EVs have easily tripled their average range, cut their lower prices significantly, improved their charging times from hours to minutes and improved charging station availability hugely.
This is a disruptive technical revolution with a better technology, no matter how much the gas & oil industry fights against it.
Just as renewable electricity generation is now the low cost choice, the cost structure of EV's is creating the same dynamic for EV's.
Two years ago everyone was saying there wasn't enough lithium for the EV revolution, now there are reserves driving lithium prices rapidly down.

Keeping up with development on the EV side they are continuing to improve. All the negatives we have agreed upon continue to be eliminated, which is why IMO, putting down markers about "call me when" is just asking for come-uppance in a short number of years.
Re: Electric Vehicles - Information & Updates
BTW we are already almost 10% of the way to unhealthy for humans levels of CO2 in the air, and around larger cities it is probably higher.
At high levels, the carbon dioxide itself can cause headache, dizziness, nausea and other symptoms. This could occur when exposed to levels above 5,000 ppm for many hours. At even higher levels of CO2 can cause asphyxiation as it replaces oxygen in the blood-exposure to concentrations around 40,000 ppm is immediately dangerous to life and health. CO2 poisoning, however, is very rare.

Sure, that time will be reduced in the future, of course. It is more interesting that the time to do that less than 5 years ago would have been measured in days, not hours.
It is more interesting, technically, as to how the design accomplished this charging time.
The charging time is as much limited by charger capability as the vehicle battery. With a different vehicle battery connection design and two chargers it could be reduced to 38 minutes.

Didn't realize this much progress had been made, however it seems overstated if they are comparing individual chargers to gas stations which have multiple pumps, and charging takes longer than pumping gas, though at fast chargers the difference is less.

IEA sees full EVs and plug-in hybrids together accounting for one in five light-duty vehicles (think cars, SUVs and pickups) sold in 2024.
Overall, the agency projects sales growing over 21% this year. That's down from 2023 growth, but from a higher base.
But the market is top-heavy: 60% of those sales are in China, with 25% in Europe, and 10% in the U.S.
EVs still haven't reached upfront cost-parity with fossil fuel-powered models, and that's a check on growth.
They're 10%-50% more expensive in Europe and the U.S., "depending on the country and car segment," the IEA notes.
But in China, the largest market, 60% of EVs sold last year were less costly than their internal combustion equivalent, it added.

Re: Electric Vehicles - Information & Updates
Today I am seeing stories that investors are thinking that EV stocks are becoming the next big thing.
While I think that eventually EV's will dominate the market, I'm not thinking next quarter.
Prices for the entry level EV's in the US are still too high, in the $30k to $40k region.
Range is still too low in the 200mpc to 300mpc for entry level BEV's.
The charging network is still too scattered, it probably needs at a minimum 10 times the chargers in the field.
The charging times are still too high, get them down to 10 minutes for 20% to 80% at least.
I'm thinking EV's might become the second, commuting vehicle for people in metro areas in the US, but no more than that.

As you guys saw a few weeks ago I read dozens and dozens of press releases on technology regarding BEV's, and sometimes post them here.
I decided after that link dump I had made a point, not sure what and once was enough. Don't worry, not changing my mind on that.
Out of the dozens that have passed by since, this one today is significant.
The leading battery company in the world has announced they have a production ready vehicle battery with over 600 miles per fully charged battery which can add 370 miles of charge in 10 minutes.

Re: Electric Vehicles - Information & Updates
Range anxiety: the fear of not having enough charge, is still a fear that occupies a part of EV driver's minds and keeps some drivers out of pure battery-electric vehicles.
However, a new study found that range anxiety is a complicated, multi-faceted issue and that a new fear surrounding charging has emerged for most owners of electric vehicles.
https://www.thestreet.com/electric-vehicles/despite-charging-and-range-anxiety-ev-owners-wont-give-up-their-cars
https://insideevs.com/news/718943/chevrolet-equinox-ev-epa-range-consumption/The all-new Chevrolet Equinox EV has received its official EPA range and energy consumption ratings ahead of its market launch in Q2 2024. InsideEVs will have an opportunity to review it in May.
The Chevrolet Equinox EV FWD has a driving range of 319 miles. Switching to the AWD version will cut the range by 34 miles or 10.7%.
The entry-level Chevrolet Equinox EV 1LT FWD has an MSRP of $33,600. When you add a $1,395 destination charge and a $7,500 federal tax credit, the effective cost is $27,495. It's the lowest price for an electric car with 300+ miles of EPA range by a huge margin.
Michigan’s electric vehicle infrastructure is growing faster than the national average.
In 2023, the state increased its number of public direct current (DC) fast charging stations by 52%. That topped the U.S. increase of 47%, according to Anderson Economic Group, an East Lansing-area consulting group.
DC fast chargers can fully charge an electric vehicle in about 30 minutes, making them the ideal infrastructure for public stations. The alternative Level 1 and Level 2 AC chargers can take from one to two hours to several hours, depending on the charger and vehicle.

That means Chinese EVs are not only plentiful – but cheap – in some cases, with price tags of less than $10k. As such, Farley has previously stated that he views those models are more of a threat to the automaker’s business than mandates – sentiments echoed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Marin Gjaja, COO of Ford Model e.

Ford EBIT 1st quarter was 2.8 Billion...
So they could have sold maybe 28k more EVs and still broken even.

Not many tires up new car models have a positive DCRR in the first model years. Ford knows this. All of the costs for the EV manufacturing structures are being binned against current sales, which of course makes the cost per vehicle pretty high.

Ford is looking especially good, with year-to-date sales through April of 28,252 EVs, an increase of 97% from the same period last year.
Re: Electric Vehicles - Information & Updates
Electric vehicles (EVs) accounted for 4.3% of sales on used car sales platform Carvana in the first quarter of 2024 — up from 1.8% in the same period last year.
Why it matters: It's another sign that there's finally a decent market for used electric cars — important for the overall EV transition, as new electric models still tend to be prohibitively expensive for many would-be buyers.
Follow the money: EVs' average selling price on Carvana dropped 16% year over year in Q1 2024, falling from $37,000 to $31,000.

From your 5 month old link:
Ford still expects 2024 production and sales of the Lightning to surpass 2023 levels. In the first 11 months of this year, Ford sold more than 20,000 of the Lightning pick-ups—an increase of more than 50 percent from the same period in 2022. The company’s sales of all electric models grew 16 percent, to more than 62,000 vehicles.

Trucks are what Ford does. The ICE F150 is the #1 selling truck in America for 46 years straight. Spin all you want, but if Ford is cutting EV F150s, that is NOT a good sign for them.
