I would guess Smith sat down with Barnett (and maybe Hawkins) to discuss the portal/existing players, and evaluate re-recruiting them based on talent and attitude. It was obviously a difficult year, but you don't want players around that made it more difficult.

I think don't think we got a great read on Hauser this year based on the shitty OL. He didn't make great decisions under pressure but he didn't make awful ones either. Kim clearly had piss running down his leg agaisnt P5 opponents. I thought Leavitt had the most potential out of the 3.

Houser had a long slow arm motion. Not sure he’s right for fast corners. Don’t know how far he could accurately get the ball down the field. You are right however, our offensive line and our receivers who ran very slow routes, did not help him out at all. I think he’s going to do good at East Carolina. They play good football there and the game will start slowing down for him.

Yikes, for as little production as we had, some of these were the players that had that production. It would be nice to see how a real coaching staff could develop the natural talent that they displayed.

No idea how the transfer portal works as far as kids committing (or if they sign a Letter of Intent). So, the technicality would (maybe) be that coaches can't contact guys who aren't in the portal. But, I think we all realize that's going on anyway.

Every season there are FBS scholarship players who opt to play the Portal Lottery and find themselves on the outside looking in calling FCS and D2 coaches.
