Re: The deportation thread.
So clearly Penns hot button issues are as follows since his newest return
1) Illegal immigration is out of control
2) Approves of rounding them up and deporting them (I don’t know how you do that other than stop and frisk because the “look” illegal)
3) Full and unequivocal support of Israel
4) If the Gaza Strip is flattened so be it
5) Had to be drug by his feet to condemn Nazis
6) Anti any form of student debt relief
7) Can’t stand Tim Walz
And he’s gonna try to convince us he voted for Harris. Sure. Okay.
Edit to add:

Simple question:
If you remove immigrants from food/crop industries, will prices go up or down?
And for extra credit, what will happen to labor wages and union participation?

I don't really know what is "hispanic" - I think they're from Portugal. Maybe South America.Motown Spartan wrote:I wonder if Bob's gay Hispanic neighbors voted for Trump and if they did, should we report them to ICE without knowing their status?
one of them is an engineer, seems to do okay financially. The other one stays home - doesn't speak a lick of English but seems like a nice enough guy. Does a lot of work around their house, their yard.
but, I don't know - if the racist christian republican/libertarians get rid of them because Russia and the mainstream media convinced them that they're eating cats and dogs, there will be a nice house up for sale.

Maybe you can just annex their house Israel style. You probably wouldn't even need to bomb it first.

Pretty much no effect, those jobs will not be filled as few people want to, or in the case if field work, can, do them.

Again, start with the policy. Legislation. Something on paper stating we need more immigrants. Not just a few people saying so.Heat Miser wrote:PennSpartan wrote:
If we decided as a country (through policy) that we needed a lot more immigrants to sustain economic growth, then it should be done fairly (all countries), legally, and in an organized fashion. The way it’s happening now is ridiculous.
Of course it's ridiculous. But we've already discussed this. The solution is faster & more efficient documentation and processing. However, more than half of all illegal immigrants in this country are visa over stayers who arrived through legal points of entry. I dated a pretty hot Peruvian girl back in the day who did exactly that.

YOU say we need less (or no) immigrants.
How would that impact the price of food in this country?
Simple question. Answer it.

Re: The deportation thread.
Trapper Gus wrote: Paul Krugman of The New York Times writes about the probable consequences to food prices should Trump carry out his plans for mass deportations....with the economy starting from, essentially, full employment in his second term, Trump, with mass deportations, would degrade productive capacity, balloon deficits and — yes — bring inflation roaring back, keeping a grim pledge on punitive immigration policy while breaking one on providing relief to American consumers.
Here’s what I mean: If you’re upset about grocery prices now, see what happens if Trump goes after a huge part of the agricultural work force; immigrants are around three-quarters of agricultural workers — and roughly half of them are undocumented. (And do you really doubt that many workers legally here will be caught up in Trump’s threatened dragnets?) Undocumented immigrants also play a large role in food processing. For example, they account for an estimated 30 to 50 percent of workers in meatpacking.
If these workers are deported, the food industry will probably have great difficulty replacing them. Even in the best case, the industry will have to offer much higher wages — and, of course, these higher wages will be passed on in higher prices.
(Oh, and while we produce most of what we eat, we also import a lot of food — whose prices would be raised by tariffs.)
Everyone is acting like Trump's illegal immigrant deportation plan will be applied evenly. When has anything trump done been even?
Here is what's going to happen. There will be no raids in agricultural areas. It won't even be talked about. They will raid in urban areas and trump will characterize this as a primarily liberal city problem. He'll get his heads and the cities will deal with the fallout of a lack of immigrant labor but it won't much effect the food supply.

For me, it's because a great deal of our economy is essentially a pyramid scheme that requires a bigger and bigger base in order to provide the necessary funds to keep functioning. As it turns out, population increases in developed western nations typically decrease, shrinking the base that I just described. That can be offset and rectified through increased immigration. Its just math.

No Penn. The far left would like to make immigrants who are in the country legal, taking away the leverage the employers have over them. Unionized would be great too, and we support that.
It the right who bitches about immigrants while exploiting their status with low wages.

Your side thinks about power. Liberals are all about following the ideals of the United States, that all are created equal, with equal opportunity for life, liberty & happyness.happiness.
Your side was killing cops because you lost an election. Liberals are all, it sucks that Trump won and Penn is going to be so screwed in the next four years but we will do what we can within the law to help him.

Wait, what? Just a new deflection? Some kind of strawman? Moving the goal posts? Not sure what you're going for here.
(You still haven't answered the first question, but I mean...not really expecting you to have an honest discussion at this point.)
I am not against cheap labor. I'm not fond of immigrants being exploited by US companies, consumers, and then for political purposes (you know by people who are afraid of immigrants...except when they're in the check out line at the grocery store, or at a restaurant, etc, etc...).
Surely...you're not dumb enough to fall for that scare tactic, right?

Not at all. Just tired of your glee over killing immigrants and your total ignorance as to how immigration has been improving this country.
Your position on this issue is both destructive to our country's well bring and deeply racist. Which is disturbing to see.
It sad that you are too blinded by your hatred for other people of all sorts to see this.

Only partially, it's more of a side effect of being open and caring people's that want better for everyone and are for human rights. Motivations are complicated like that. Both can be true and I don't believe your assertion is intentional. Its more about they are here, we can't get rid of them, so let's make them trackable a d let's make them tax payers. Immigration has LONG been used to buck population trends. To fill gaps in work forces, to grow. To build railroads, etc etc, this is not a new concept. I'm sorry that Republicans can't get behind a nation who has a statue of liberty that says "give us your tired, your poor" etc etc. maybe if they weren't such ass holes and if they exhuded more American ideals, maybe just maybe more of them would support them. But sure, let's blame the Democrats and their nefarious plan to import voters.... Who can't actually vote. Your brain is seriously rotting RFK style
