Williamson excited to get back on field for Cotton Bowl
East Lansing — RJ Williamson might have been the happiest man in the Skandalaris Football center on Friday afternoon following Michigan State’s last Cotton Bowl practice before its Christmas break.
Williamson — who hasn’t played in 11 weeks since suffering a torn biceps against Purdue — has been medically cleared to play and now that his pain is behind him, only anticipation is in front of him.
“It feels good. Right now, we’re just trying to strengthen it up more and more but as far as pain and everything like that, I think I’m 100 percent free from all of that,” he said. “It’s just a matter of getting my conditioning down, but I feel good.”

Cotton Bowl practices give freshmen chance to shine
EAST LANSING – Jack Conklin has been there and understands how a player can get “kind of robotic” as a member of the scout team — trying to learn the opponent’s scheme and “doing the same thing over and over,” Conklin said, for the benefit of the regulars.
So the past week of practice was refreshing for Michigan State’s freshmen and others who normally toil on that scout team.
“The bowl practices give them a chance to not only simulate the opponent’s offense or defense but also re-learn our offense or our defense,” Conklin said. “That’s huge for them, because that gets them back into the role where they feel more valued to the team.”
And as always at this time of year, future names to watch are emerging, even as the No. 3 Spartans prepare to take on No. 2 Alabama in the Dec. 31 Cotton Bowl national semifinal. Conklin was one of those names as MSU prepared for TCU and the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl three years ago.
The first one he’s mentioning is freshman defensive lineman Raequan Williams.
“He’s a big guy,” Conklin said of the 6-foot-4, 290-pound Williams. “He’s gonna be a great player for us in the next few years ... a very special player. He’s a big guy that moves well, and he picks it up. He’s a very coachable kid, which plays a huge role for that.”
Conklin also had good things to say about two other defensive ends: freshman Cassius Peat and redshirt freshman Robert Bowers.

Stop pretending Saban cared about players. He really doesn't. If he did 2 of them wouldn't have killed themselves and got professional help in a ward. The fact dantonio doesn't really care for him due to his disrespect is all I need to know

Enjoy it now. Everyone was a fan of MSU when we played O$U. Everyone is a fan of us against Bama. No one really cared either way when we played Iowa, PSU or many other teams. Basically I think people are looking for something new, plus we aren't hard to cheer for. Team works hard, coaches work hard, no rumors of improprieties, a Giantslayer who is continually disrespected.Floyd Robertson wrote:LooseGoose wrote:Michigan State Is The Team Most Americans Want To Win The College Football Playoff

Nick's not well liked anywhere, but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Too many Spartan crybabies.
