That's one of the many problems MSU has on its hands: After complaints were received, Nassar was instructed to only perform that procedure with another staff member in the examination room. He may have complied for awhile, but then went back to examinations without a second person present. It looks like no one above Nassar attempted to enforce the requirement. One of many fuck ups on the part of the university.

I don’t know. My wife tells me a 2nd person is always there. But i think that is to protect himself not what the institution is requiring

this. if part of my job was to do that, you sure as shit would believe I'd have a female nurse do it instead with the family present. no fucking way I'd want to be considered remotely close to a nassar.

Point is there wasn't by so many accounts. It's beyond fucked up. If there isn't a policy in place at MSU there should be one. Like yesterday. Another piece where if I was jury I'd be asking "what the fuck is wrong with you thinking it's ok to have a one doctor one female patient alone?" Legal or not, I'd think that.

I have to question whether any of this true. Because MSU has the technology to catch someone doing something illegal on a computer it is automatically liable for everything done illegally on its computers?

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A second woman says that the Michigan State women's gymnastics coach was aware of complaints of assault by a sports doctor who treated female athletes.

Coach Kathie Klages was suspended Monday. New allegations against her were disclosed Tuesday by a woman who is seeking to join more than two dozen in a lawsuit against Dr. Larry Nassar.

In a court filing, the woman says she was part of a youth gymnastics program in 1997-98. She says Klages asked her if Nassar had penetrated her vagina with his fingers.

The woman said yes. She says Klages told her there's "no reason to bring up" Nassar's conduct.

Klages hasn't responded to emails seeking comment. Nassar was a Michigan State doctor who also worked for USA Gymnastics, which trains Olympians. He denies abuse.

The gymnastics coach is named in three cases. The thing is, if the medical procedure was in fact viewed as legitimate did she actually do anything wrong by failing to report? And if she did report would anything have happened?
There was one case that was investigated by Meridian police and they didn't pursue charges. Another case made it to the Ingham County prosecutor and he didn't press charges because it was viewed as a legitimate medical procedure.
MSU had its own Title IX ivestigation in 2014 where he was also cleared.
As atrocious as this story is it isn't that hard to see why someone like the MSU gymnastics coach wouldn't believe the accusations. This guy was renowned, worked with olympians and seeminly had a green light from the sports and medical world to do his thing.
I have to think yes she had a duty to report. Maybe nothing comes of it, but if USA gymnastics, TriStars and/or whoever all the parties were all reported and these cased kept piling up eventually he might have been stopped sooner.
