Craft beer

Checked my local store this evening. The only beer they had from that list was Omission which, technically is not gluten-free...just reduced. Tried one. Not bad. Not great either.

Short's sells 20% of its biz to Heineken. Also, I didn't realize Perrin had changed hands.

Yeah, they're still considered a craft brewery, but AFAIC, they're sellouts and fuck them.

ShopRite at Trowbridge and Harrison sold cases of 16oz Stroh's longnecks for $5. Best beer deal in town.

Spent a lot of time in the UP as a kid. Old Milwaukee and Hamm's were favorites up there. Buttwiper and Miller were not even considered.

Yeah, there was PBR and Schlitz too. Retrieved a shitload of Hamm's bottles not far from the dock summers after hunting season. Fuckers that rented the place by the lake would pitch them out there.

I'll run across piles of cans occasionally in remote areas where people use to have camps. Like in the middle of nowhere scouting streams.

Saw Bell's Octoberfest in the store cooler this evening. Don't recall ever trying it before so picked up a 6.

Not bad but Two Hearted is much better.

Having a Founders Backwoods Bastard. This stuff is pretty damn good. Like KBS it is suppose to get better with age. Going to tuck a couple bottles away (comes in a 4-pack) to have at a later date.

I have a problem in that I love 2 Hearted so much that I compare every craft beer I try to it. So even when I find one I like, I never think they're quite as good as 2 Hearted.

4-pack was $16.99. Not quite as smooth as KBS but you definitely pick up on the bourbon barrel aging. 11.2% ABV

man, if I stopped drinking alcohol that I had gotten sick on, I wouldn't be drinking alcohol at all.

that said, I haven't gotten sick on alcohol in probably 20-25 years which makes me believe that maturity and knowing when to stop, not the alcohol itself, is the key.

pretty certain that Founder's (whom I love, by the way - so I'm not disparaging them) modeled their Backwoods Bastard character after my man, Popcorn Sutton.

Picked up a 4 pack of this tonight because of your post, and I gotta admit I'm pretty impressed. I don't usually like the darker beers but this is delicious. It's a dark black color with gleams of red and has a boozy, caramel taste. And you can distinctly taste the bourbon. It's a sipping beer, but every sip is delicious.

When I tried KBS I liked it but thought it wasn't worth the $8/bottle or whatever the hell I paid for it. But I paid $14.49 for a 4 pack of this and I'd buy it again for sure. This beer lives up to the hype.

had a couple of Hamm's and a PBR after (more) yard work yesterday evening.

was a lovely fall night on the deck.. finely manicured lawn, beer and tunes.

Stopped by Buscemi's after work this evening. They had four cases left with each bottle tagged $4.29. Bought a case for $85. Going to test the aging theory by comparing this year's batch to next year's.

Not sure how it is with beers, but Arrogant Bastard is already the name of a beer. Been around for quite a while as well.

Founders makes a beer called Dirty Bastard. Never tried it.
