Attorneys working on behalf of Larry Nassar have filed multiple motions to challenge the sentence he received in January for sexually abusing hundreds of women and girls over decades as a former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State team physician, signaling his intent to appeal the ruling.

The pair of motions, filed Tuesday with Ingham County Court by Nassar’s state appellate defense attorneys, ask for Judge Rosemarie Aquilina to be disqualified from future proceedings in the case including his request to be resentenced, arguing that Aquilina’s sentence is invalid.

this is particularly disgusting, though not surprising..

“Instead of a proceeding to assist the judge in reaching a fair and just sentencing decision, the judge used the nationally-televised proceedings as an opportunity to advance her own agenda, including to advocate for policy initiatives within the state as well as the federal legislatures, to push for broader cultural change regarding gender equity and sexual discrimination issues, and, seemingly, as a type of group therapy for the victims.”

The motion continues to describe the proceedings as a “free-for-all, in which speakers were given free reign to denigrate the defendant; to disparage and ridicule his constitutional rights, including his rights to counsel; to accuse entities and institutions of wrongdoing; and even to accuse uncharged individuals of wrongdoing and crimes, including calling for their incarceration and other punishment.”

I think I've rationalized my position pretty decently in the 30 seconds since I read this. I'm not wishing harm/death on the guy, I just feel no sympathy for whatever does happen to him.

The State News published and article about the original MSU Alumni magazine with articles related to Nassar, survivors, Title IX, I say original because the issue was changed at the direction of the Administration.

The article is an interesting read - some of the issues talk about wanting to move forward and celebrate the accomplishments at MSU, while others state that "In the shadow of these accomplishments, until survivors of Nassar’s abuse get answers as to why their reports and stories were ignored for decades, these achievements “feel tarnished,” Louise Knott Ahern said in the original magazine"

Can anyone give me a good reason why this kind of crime isn't a capital offense? I know Michigan has their idiotic anti-capital punishment edict in the state constitution. But this was a federal crime. Serial rapists should be put to death.

In fact, I think proper punishment would be to throw him in a cell. Provide nothing for him, and let nature take its natural course.

IIRC, the federal charges were strictly child porn. The other charges were under the purview of the state.

On a side note, it always amazes me how some of the most ardent self-proclaimed pro-lifers are at the same time also the most eager to kill another human.
