Absolutely not trying to be condescending, and apologies if it comes off that way, but, IMO, you just haven’t lived long enough to be so jaded, which is why I chose disillusioned.

This, though I will also add that it is good to be jaded. Or at least very skeptical. It is a dirty, sleazy business, so think about what type of person it takes to excel in such a business?

Trying to cover up a rape that resulted in a pregnancy seems pretty out there for someone who was a medical student at the time. I grew up in the 90's. They weren't the fucking 30's where a women's place was to keep quiet about these sorts of things. Klages was charged a week or two ago with a few felonies - though I do agree that her behavior, actions and inaction has been, at best, disgusting. I think (I don't know) that some charges would have been difficult to bring, as statutes have expired, etc - and a lot of her alleged involvement was very immoral, unethical, deplorable - but, in terms of criminal charges, would be pretty easy for a good defense attorney to poke holes in testimony. They (prosecutors) had to charge her with something they knew would stick.

I need to see that Geddert character go down.

Why was this player referred by a coach to a med student instead of a doctor? Is that common?

Supposedly the coach was forced to resign, turn over the video, and sign an NDA because she told the AD that a player was raped by another student? Huh? I don't buy that Perles hushed this because he was under pressure. How does a student athlete being a victim of something perpetrated by a non-athlete, reflect badly on the athletic department where he would need to cover that up? Doesn't seem logical.

It also doesn't make sense that the police told her that they can't handle it. I know a lot has changed in 26 years, but not criminal jurisdiction. It would make sense that the police said they were powerless to investigate it because that was "later that year" meaning there would be no evidence on which to investigate anything.

Again, I'm not at all saying it is untrue, but pretty much every claim sounds like it could be answer to a question that starts, "If this happened, why didn't you tell...."

Taking heat over ruining the football program in May 92? Maybe after the 92 season, but not in May 92. Yeah, we had a poor season in 91, but had 6 straight winning seasons before that, including two B10 championships in 4 years.

There are some major holes in this alleged incident. Perles wasn't even the AD at the time. MDB was. Nassar was still a student.

Murphy was still quick to write his own story about it, though. I first heard about it when my wife sent me a link (which I felt dirty for opening). He didn't bother to note those discrepancies, at least not initially. So maybe he reported first and asked questions later, which is a great example of the state of ESPN, and really much of "reporting" in general.

agree that there seems to be some holes in this most recent storyline - certainly not to minimize the possibility of a very tragic situation.. but, these days, it's definitely good click bait/red meat for people to latch their teeth into, facts/truth/a shred of healthy skepticism be damned.

I don't view this story as click bait, as an actual lawsuit was filed.
However I do look at this one with a huge amount of skepticism, based on the aforementioned holes in the story and the fact that she waited until the last day to file a claim under the $500 million settlement. Not that this was filed as part of the settlement, as I don't know if it also part of that claim or if they are filing this solely as a separate action.

You do have to admit that the way MSU handled the Thomashow investigation of Nassars actions and the whole Dean Strampel shitshow will make everyone pause and say that it could have happened.

He seems very credible and I'd have to buy into the conspiracy narrative that the sports coaches at the university have powers over the police and the courts. Even every example that went to the police in the crappy OTL report the police investigated the complaints so if the police were willing to look the other way back then why wouldn't they for all the recent issues?

And, I thought it was widely established that Nassar that our current coaches and Hollis had most likely never interacted with Nassar so why would Perles have any involvement with him?

Having known a female student athlete at MSU who was sexually assaulted around 92 or 93, I'm not buying the police cover up either. She reported it to the police, and they investigated it. They didn't say it was for the athletic department to deal with, not them.

I'm not going to doubt at all that this girl in the lawsuit was raped, or that she was raped by Nassar (it doesn't really seem like how he did things, but he certainly could have refined his M.O. in later years). But I have trouble buying the idea of the police kicking it back to the athletic department, that the football coach (since he was no longer the AD) squashed a claim by a field hockey player against a med school student, or that the football coach fired the field hockey coach and pulled the schollie of the field hockey player because they brought these allegations to him...the no-longer-AD football coach.

If I read the article correctly she told them that she didn't know the Dr. referenced in the 2014 report was Nassar? I really don't know how that could be true unless the name was redacted from even the President of the University?

yeah, who knows - but it seems to be the sort of thing that could be easily corroborated. I can't imagine a prosecutor bringing charges otherwise, especially given the case in question.
