I mean. Probably. But depending on your metric, Hillary did.
At the end of the game you look at the (electoral) scoreboard, not who gained the most yards.
So, she didn't.

Careful, Roc, you're on the verge of arguing semantics with Nigel. Take it any farther and you'll need to clear your calendar.

Bernie last week promised that his running mate wouldn't be "an old white guy". I heard that, I thought he was speaking right to you, Bob, with your racism and sexism that you often tout.

I'm not sufficiently perturbed to block people over it. Mostly what I'm pining for is discussion about who the best nominee is that goes deeper than bitching about Bernie Bros and personal impressions of the candidates' various personality shortcomings.
Miami is another poster whose posts I wish comprised a larger percentage of tBin.

The point, Nigel, is that you and everyone else here knew exactly what he was referring to, but you sensed a technicality that you could score points on.

Re: The 2020 Presidential campaign.
I like Bernie, but I'm with Bob here (did I just say that?) on the policies vs personal part. I'd rather disagree with a candidates politics, but believe in their honesty and integrity, than agree with someone's policies and think they're a piece of shit.Cameron wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote: disliking someone because they're an arrogant prick and a misogynist is totally logical where I come from..
vote for who you want.. that's what I say.
The illogical part is not disliking Bernie. The illogical part is not voting for a candidate whose policies check off more of your boxes because you dislike that candidate personally.
Frankly, I suspect they're all dislikable people on a personal level. You mention arrogance as well, and I think they're all breathtakingly arrogant. Honestly, Warren might be the most arrogant one left, now that Pete dropped out.
So much of policies, when it comes to a presidential race, is just a lot of bullshit anyway. Bernie wouldn't go walking into the white house and make this a socialist country. He wouldn't give free healthcare to everyone, blah, blah, blah. A President doesn't have that much power by himself/herself.
Give me a president, regardless of political beliefs, but that is honest and trustworthy. Fuck the politics of it, just get a good, honest person in there that just wants to help the country, rather than care only about the donars, lobbyists, and his own personal agenda. I know, that's too much to ask of politicians, but some are better than others. I don't see what's illogical about wanting a good, honest person running this country.

Well, for my part, I think Bernie is honest and trustworthy, at least by politician standards. And I certainly don't think any other candidate can credibly claim to be less beholden to donors, lobbyists, and special interests than Bernie.
I get the trustworthy piece of the equation, it does no good to like a candidate's policies if you don't trust them to actually govern that way. But I feel like that's a distinct and discreet personality trait that is not necessarily tied to likability. I think it's possible to trust the honesty of someone you don't like at all.
If anything, Bernie's "unlikability" is sort of evidence of his integrity. Bernie doesn't just say what he thinks people want to hear, he says what he believes, even when that's "Castro did good things for Cuba's literacy."

None of this surprises me. You're not a real progressive, Bob, and that's fine. You and your family are comfortable, and you just want a return to the status quo, where the machine keeps grinding, but all the politicians pay lip service to the veneer of civility that we all love so much. You should have been on Biden all along, but I know you want to make your wife proud by supporting a woman, so you do you.

By all indications, Warren is in it for the long haul. She has performed objectively worse than Pete, who saw the clear writing on the wall, but she's gonna keep going. The cynical part of me (which is most of me) thinks she's only doing it to hurt Bernie's chances. I mean, does she really think she can take it to a contested convention and be the unity candidate if she can't win a single state? Bernie is polling ahead of her in MA, last I checked.

Re: The 2020 Presidential campaign.
There was, before SC, some funky math out there that still had her with a path. I believe it requires her to start performing better ASAP or she would lose that path. I think she’s hoping for debate bumps, but they don’t seem to be showing up. She has been debating her ass off in the last couple though. I don’t know how that calculation had changed, but I suspect without a strong Super Tuesday performance, she’s out too. Bloomberg’s dumbass hopefully goes soon. Then it’s Bernie and Biden, as was the thought back in the beginning. Should be fun.

I agree Bernie is pretty honest. That's why I like him, and would probably prefer him over any others, despite not being a huge fan of his politics.Cameron wrote:MiamiSpartan wrote:

I felt that Kloubachar is pretty genuine, though that's from a fairly limited sample size of seeing/hearing her, so maybe she's just good at portraying that. She might make a good running mate for Bernie if he gets the nom, as a moderate to give the ticket a little balance.

I don't get it either, but apparently it's a real, significant thing. I think I saw somewhere that SC exit polls indicated around 40% of the voters said Clyburn's endorsement factored into their choice.

I guess so. It might give a certain candidate more credibility in the eyes of some.. ya know, if his peers publicly support him - but I can't imagine the fact that Klobuchar endorsing Biden is gonna suddenly put a wind at his back going into Super Tuesday.Cameron wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote: I've never understood the endorsement thing..

The other two moderates both drop out (or three if you count Steyer), so their voters are likely to primarily go to Biden, endorsement or not. I thought Klobuchar might stick it out through Super Tuesday since her home state's primary is tomorrow, so I think there were some negotiations going on, as this probably gives another state to Biden tomorrow.Floyd Robertson wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:apparently Klobuchar dropped out so we can stop arguing about her now.
