I may be wrong but to be put on vents most must be induced into a coma first.
I heard that as well but I also read some stuff about some people being able to do it while awake. Though that may have been due to necessity/lack of equipment. I can't really remember exactly.

That is correct.
There can be some instances where they let someone wake up and keep them semi conscious for a while .
So yes,you are generally in a coma when you’re vented. He wasn’t getting enough oxygen breathing on his own.

I used to go to Greenville SC a couple of times a year to visit a client, and one of the people there grew up in Bat Cave. I always thought that would be cool...unless there are a lot of bats there.

I guess our Chamber of Commerce discussion, though non-Coronavirus related, is more productive than him getting all snippy at me all the time. I could post some of my old cycling routes.Turtleneck wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote: there you go.. we were doing just fine until you started in on that.

Update:
There is some improvement. They’re removing 3 medications, removing the ice packs (but are expecting his fever to go back up in doing so), slight improvement with his chest X-ray, and lowering the respiration amount a little bit.

Scary stuff Dendro. But it sounds like things are improving. I'm assuming you can't/don't want to risk going and seeing him right now? That's gotta be tough.
Still hoping for a full recovery. Hang in there!

They won’t allow any visitors. That’s what sucks when you get admitted now. There are no visitors.
My mom can’t visit, nor can his fiancé.
Even if I could, I probably wouldn’t since I’m pregnant.

That's what crushes me so much more about all of this, that people in these hospitalized situations can't have visitors. I wonder if they would let his fiance visit once she's officially over her bout with the virus?

My understanding in the hospitals here, is that no visitors that have corona no matter what.
His fiancé texted me last night, and she said they said their goodbyes right before he was vented. In case he didn’t wake up. Only thing he could do before that was text, as it was too hard to talk.

Seems like some of the the models are showing improved projections compared to week ago. Sounds like keeping Bob from going out in public worked. I think there will be a football season, too.

While we all desperately hope that's the case, if the death toll ends up under 100K, watch for idiots complaining that it was over-hyped. It is not unlike what happens with virtually every hurricane or death storm. But if they didn't play up the danger, then A) idiots would take it less seriously, not prepare and put themselves and others in danger , and B) if it is worse than hyped, then people complain that they weren't warned.
Yes, Trump will claim that as a victory. So what, that's going to have little affect on the voting, no matter how hard he pushes it. I'd rather have him try to claim that than to have tens of thousands more people die so that he can't, of course.

I'd bring back sports without fans first and have everything else trickle back opposite of how it closed down

If we got the "all clear" tomorrow I think most events that involve large public gatherings will see very limited demand for some time. Football in the fall might be ok, but I don't think too many peeps will be rushing out to attend MLB/concerts/etc. for the duration of the summer at least. Flying? Not unless it's absolutely necessary.
Let's assume football is a go. Imagine the new protocols needed. Hand sanitizer (assuming it's available) everywhere at stadiums? Everyone's temperature taken on entry? Ban tailgating completely? The old man sitting next to you who has smoked his entire life (unbeknownst to those around him) starts coughing uncontrollably. Does everyone in the immediate vicinity think corona virus & panic? Maybe only 10% panic? Stampede for exit?

One model that previously projected deaths per day all the way into August has readjusted to predict a decline following this month's peak and continuing into May with no deaths per day by mid June. There is of course the idea that this is seasonal and will flare up again the fall. I'm just trying to be optimistic. If there is no football season...whatever. If there is no basketball season...I will take it to the streets and fight the power.

But that would make our numbers go up, which can't happen before 11/3.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:Testing. Need more rapid testing. And serological testing.
FWIW, there is a growing concern about possible reinfection. It kind of shatters what we know about how viruses work, but apparently South Korea has had numerous people test positive after recovery (and testing clear). None had symptoms though.
My opinion, football season happens if there is a vaccine by late summer.
