The 2020 Presidential campaign.

Really here's what will probably determine the immediate future of that party. If probably 4-5 more R Senators come out publicly in favor of impeachment in the next 4-5 days. Or if Mitch does. Either way the holdouts will start to feel like opposing it will be a gamble they can't afford to take and the dominos fall. There's 2-3 already and if more join that group, that will probably make the rest think they need to jump ship.

I'm just babbling.

The likes of Graham, Cruz, etc., seem to be going with the "impeachment will just divide us, let's move on and heal" argument to not support impeachment. This completely obscures what happened Wednesday. It's like defending a murderer by saying, "What's done is done, let's move on".

The sedition wing of the GOP also needs down play the terrorist attacks in order to obscure their culpability in all of it.

McConnell says the Senate won't reconvene until Jan 19, at which time Schumer will be Majority Leader. There have been lots of arguments made for convicting him, even if it is after Jan 20th. A president still must be held accountable for their actions, even if committed on the last day of their presidency, or for something not discovered until after their term is over. The fact that it would prevent him from running in 2024 (whether he would or not) should be a reason for R's with ambitions of their own for 2024 to want convict.

It’s pathetic. He’s going to get impeached again next week. I wish they had fast tracked it right after the insurrection but oh well. On the upside he’s off social media, and Gen. Milley gave Pelosi assurance there are safeguards in place to keep Trump from issuing a Gen. Ripper-esque “Wing Plan Attack R”.

Downplaying it and normalizing it is all wrong. Sane people understand that. Too bad there is an insane group of Republicans.

So how do you handle surveillance of trump? Lawfully. I don’t think that’s there’s any doubt his communications should be under constant surveillance. Domestically and internationally.

There was a literal insurrection going on while Congress was sheltering in place and he was calling tuberville to delay certification.

If McConnell actually supports and lobbies for conviction, yeah. But if he just stays quiet or tells people to vote however they want like the House GOP supposedly did, then they're just trying to play both sides.

Fact is, he's seen hundreds of major companies pledging to pull millions in donations from the Seditionist wing of the party, and he's trying to salvage that without losing too much of the far right.

Agreed. I just think he's finally figured out that it's easier to win back the burbs with their phony conservative talk vs keeping the fringe. Keeping the fringe is far to damaging long term. Guarantee you he privately wishes they would crawl back into their holes.  He has to understand what four years of Trump has cost them vs what four years of any other candidate from 2016 would have gained them.

With ODNI report on foreign influence/interference being released yesterday, please take note that that was the declassified report....the classified version of the same report with the same conclusions was done in early January. In other words, these are the conclusions of Trump's DNI, Ratcliffe. The same guy that was publicly playing up China's involvement and downplaying Russia's involvement, in direct contradiction to this report.

The report also confirms what we all pretty much knew, that Giuliani, Ron Johnson, Chuck Grassley, and others, knowingly a deliberately accepted and disseminated Russian disinformation. They are effectively Russian agents. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it is illegal if they aren't giving classified information to Russia.

Not surprised and it’s terrible. Wish the GOP would speak out against this stuff but I’ve stopped waiting around for that to happen. The long term solution I see it to just keep voting these fuckers out.

Sidney Powell's defense against the multi-billion dollar lawsuit from Dominion voting machines is literally that "no reasonable person" would believe the things she said about the election.

I mean, she's right, of course.

And just as another example of what a good lawyer Trump had working for him, her statement only incriminated herself. In a defamation suit, the plaintiff needs to show that the defendant KNOWINGLY made false statements. She just did their work for them.

The GOP's completely biased and secret recount, run by the far right wing Cyber Ninjas, in Arizona has finished.

And the results are that Biden won by even more than the original count, and no fraud was found.

I suppose the only surprising thing is that they actually admitted these results.

I guess it is on to Pennsylvania for the Cyber Ninjas now. I'm sure they'll get paid a lot of money, whatever they find, just like in Arizona.
