Re: Bourbon and whiskey drinkers
Has anyone had or tried Barrell Bourbon 15 yr old cask strength? I was just given one as a gift. Probably won't open it for about a month and then only on special occasions.

I got two bottles of old bards town the 101 proof and the 97 proof.
Also got the Evan Williamson green bottle. That one is my favorite.

So I drank a little bourbon last night (roughly 3 fl ozs) and was feeling a bit giddy from the heat so I threw ‘Take This Job and Shove It”. Johnny Paycheck mixes well with Bourbon... well his song ‘Old Violin’ came on. Holy smokes that song will have you crying in your beer. That song is heavy as fuck.

Been drinking more scotch lately... in the last few weeks, I've picked up a Talisker 10, Aberlour 12.. Laphroaig quarter cask. My wife grabbed a higher end Lagavulin.

Supposedly someone is getting me the whistle pig boss hog bottle. I mentioned it as a joke. It's $500. Do I open it?

Seems like a monumental waste of top shelf liquor to get a bottle and not crack it open. I'm not saying to chug it or anything, but I feel like you gotta get a little taste so that you know what you're looking forward to on the next special occasion or whatever.

Yea, I have a bottle of Blanton's that still has about 3 shots left. Its around 2 years old at this point. I'll definitely crack it open. I'll also hide it if there are family parties during the holidays.Cameron wrote:Seems like a monumental waste of top shelf liquor to get a bottle and not crack it open. 'Hey guys, I had a bottle of pretty expensive bourbon, have you seen it?'
Yup, just mixed it with some coke, you want some?

I really like the Evan Williams Green Label these days. Whatever whiskey/bourbon you get I recommend a snifter and just a little bit of ice.

Anyone know the Tatterstall brand from Minnesota? I'm doing a virtual whiskey tasting and culinary experience tomorrow with some contestant from Top Chef. They sent all the whiskey (3 types) and food today, which we will cook during this zoom thing tomorrow night. This was a free thing set up by one of my vendors for some of their clients. I don't drink hard liquor much, but I'm not going to turn down free booze either.

Whiskey is a small part of their lineup. They make a little bit of everything and not a lot of anything. Pre-made cosmos and other cocktails. Not specifically or even a specialty whiskey company.

That explains why a couple of the bottles sent appear to be a pre-made manhattan and a pre-made old fashioned. I guess this chef has a signature whiskey with his name on it, so that's probably why it is specifically called a whiskey tasting event.

Looking it up online, it's about a $300 bottle. This will be a special occasion one.tGreenWay wrote:InTenSity wrote:I was just sent a bottle of Kentucky Owl batch no 9.

One does not simply sear a steak in the oven.

It was tasty. Cast iron skillet, oven at 600°, about 3 minutes on each side.
Take it off immediately, cover with foil and let it rest.
So. Good.
