You're not wrong. They were very tasty in Churchhill Downs. Just tried to make one and it tasted like watered down bourbon. Waste of good bourbon. Still gonna drink it.

Re: Bourbon and whiskey drinkers
Well shit. The couple we always go with when we go, about 8 times, and my wife and I always put 20 bucks each in and bet the longest odds horse to win the derby. The year mine the bird won there was another horse at either 60-1 or 50-1 that we bet on. Go dance? Or something like that. Mine the bird won. This year, had we gone, we’d be eating well tonight. 80 bucks at 84-1.
Damn kid graduating from msu this weekend. Even cost me more money.

Only if someone else is paying.
My rich bro in law got me some sort of $100/shot tequila. It was good. But it went away as fast as the cheap stuff.

The question for all whisk(e)y and wine for that matter too. Would you think the same in a blind taste test?
If you tasted Pappy, and two good mass market bourbons blindly, would most people pick out the Pappy and say "wow, this is way better than the other two?
Have never tasted Pappy, but would love to give it a try. Buy a bottle for $1k?? No thanks.

I love sipping on such. I’d turn that down. Here’s why, I’m not good enough to know the difference and couldn’t explain to you all or understand what to look for. Mad respect to you all who can taste a difference. Also mad respect to rip van and such.
It would be wasted on me. Same with Cuban cigars.
BTW great documentary on Netflix about the heist of 100’s of 1000’s of dollars Rip Van Winkle and great Kentucky smash. It was easy and these guys who played softball together basically walked in and out.

Well, I have no idea... I can tell you that $100 shot of tequila was like a tart, water, butter and lime concoction... very good and smooth. And I don't usually drink tequila. I wouldn't even try to sip the shit in my cabinet.Zurn wrote:The question for all whisk(e)y and wine for that matter too. Would you think the same in a blind taste test?

That said, I would never pay for something like that. Even if I did, had a nice snifter and it went down like angels where tickling your tastebuds... I would end up getting lit up on it and then proceed to waste the rest getting shitty real fast. You'd have to assume it's going to be gone in one night with the end effect being the same as a 12 of bush light. By the end of the bottle I would be half on the floor mixing it with diet coke.

Re: Bourbon and whiskey drinkers
I have an 18 year old bourbon at my house, I'd like to think I could definitely tell teh difference between that and a $30 bottle. It is unique to taste and very smooth. It doesn't even feel like its somewhere in the 120 proof range. I probably couldn't tell you the name of hte bourbons in a blind test, but I think I could tell which is older.Zurn wrote:The question for all whisk(e)y and wine for that matter too. If you drink it neat, 100% I would be able to. If you put a Pappy and Bulliet side-by-side, I might not be able to tell you it is Pappy, but I would be able to tell you which is better/more expensive (no knock on Bulliet). I'm fairly confident you would be too. Bourbons are like IPAs/craft beers. They each have unique tastes. Pappy was incredibly smooth.
That said. I couldn't tell you the difference between wines.

Neighbor is moving in today. I meet him a few days ago and he told me he has a 300+ bottle bourbon collection.
I'm going to be extra nice to my new neighbor.

Re: Bourbon and whiskey drinkers
I have a relatively expensive ($250) bottle of commercial blended scotch. I have always kept one sitting around, but lately it isn't my favorite.
