I'm not sure what blanch is remembering, but I think Trice realized UNC was storied. He didn't realize how much Roy had beaten Izzo and how much the game meant to Izzo until after it was over, though.

Trice grew emotional when told of how Williams has dominated his head coach.

"I knew we've struggled and lost to them, and Coach Izzo had lost a couple times,'' Trice said. "I didn't know it was like that, that's definitely got to hurt him. That's on us. We let coach down tonight, we know how big game this was to not only us but to him.''

When you sit back and watch, that's what I was doing. And the fact that you asked me that question even further lets me know that that's what I was doing.

So I just told myself, I'm going to come out and play and whatever happens, happens. Don't argue the call. It's not getting overturned, so why continue to argue and waste energy on that? I spend enough energy dealing with these guys. Don't really have time to try to argue with the officials and all that stuff.

So I just wanted to come out and really focus on the game, the task at hand, and focus on helping my team. That kind of helped me out a lot tonight.

Even back then, you just weren’t going to punk Green.

“They would get so upset with him,” said his mom, Mary Babers-Green. “When he called his ‘next’ he wanted his ‘next.’ But he was too little to get ‘next.’ So they would try to stop him from playing. They would put him in the trashcan, put him on the rim. I would have to come and turn the recreation center out.”
