Draymond Green's triple-double, NBA title no surprise to Saginaw coaches
Seeing Draymond Green with an NBA Championship seemed almost normal for former Saginaw High coach Lou Dawkins.
"I look at him and I see Draymond Green coming from Longstreet Elementary to Central Middle School to Saginaw High to Michigan State to Golden State," Dawkins said. "He's won championships at every one of those places, at every level.
"It's a blessing. I'm relaxed now, but I've been running around the house screaming during the game."
Green, a third-year NBA pro, helped lead the Golden State Warriors to the NBA Championship with a 105-97 win Tuesday over the Cleveland Cavaliers to take the series in six games.

Re: Draymond Green
The Champs Are Here: A Guide to the Elite and Unlikely Cast of Characters Who Defined the 2014-15 Golden State Warriors
Draymond Green
Tempers ran high during a physical Golden State practice in Portland in the preseason of 2012 when a rookie, some loudmouthed second-round pick, spoke up. Draymond Green told his teammates that if they wanted to bring out the best in each other, if they wanted to amount to something larger than the sum of their parts, they would have to go at each other in practice — hard. It was never personal, Green told them. It was part of the process.
It was risky for a rookie to puff up, team officials remember, but they loved it. Green’s spirit was a big reason the Warriors drafted him at no. 35. They knew the team had a leadership void. “You don’t get appointed that role,” Myers says. “It’s an innate thing. It has to be authentic and genuine, and it is with him.”
“Here’s this rookie saying this,” recalls Darren Erman, then an assistant coach with the team. “You could tell right then he had something in him. It was impressive. And we were a little bit soft.”
Golden State had both Festus Ezeli and Green high on its draft board in 2012, and when no. 30 came up, it had to choose between them. The room was divided about whether Green would be available later, but Kirk Lacob liked the team’s chances. “We decided we had to get a center first,” Lacob says. “I was confident Draymond would still be there at no. 35. He’s a four-year player, he’s short, he’s slow. He was going to slip.”
You know Green’s story by now. He carved out a key bench role under Mark Jackson, and Kerr expected him to remain a reserve; as he mapped out his rotation in July, Kerr penciled Green for just 12 measly minutes per night behind David Lee. When the team passed on Kevin Love, Myers warned Kerr he would have to play Green more, but no one expected this — especially after a disastrous training camp in which Green, chasing highlight plays he couldn’t pull off, earned the nickname “Draymond James.” Green opened up Golden State’s offense and unlocked a switch-heavy defense that stormed the league. That defense collapsed against Cleveland whenever Kerr lifted Green for a slower big man. By the end, he was one of three indispensable Golden State players, along with Curry and Iguodala.
But even the most even-keeled, analytical folks among Golden State’s brain trust believe that Green’s value transcends on-court performance. He gave the team its soul and its grit. When the Grizzlies had Golden State reeling, it was Green who invited Curry out for dinner — and, the players say now, an adult beverage — on Beale St. in Memphis after Game 3 of the conference semifinals. “There are people who simply have the propensity within their being to be special,” says Ron Adams, one of Golden State’s lead assistants. “The person that has some talent, maximizes that talent, and shapes it into something that contributes to winning. That’s what we all look for in players. That’s who Draymond is.”
More than anyone else, Green emerged as the reason passing on Love turned out to be the right move.

GS has already said they'll match any offer, it's not happening. Any team that makes him an offer ties up their cap space for days during a crucial period knowing they're not getting him. Draymond Green had a hella good time at the Warriors championship parade
If you follow me on Twitter (or read Deadspin), you know that Draymond Green poured champagne on some fans today. But that six-second clip was just a small portion of Green’s exciting afternoon, including a five-minute trip off his parade bus and into the street.
Green was on the same bus as Marreese Speights, plus he was hanging out with Marshawn Lynch all day. When I made it to their vehicle, Green decided it was time to mingle with the fans. This led to the wildest, loudest, most entertaining scene I’ve witnessed in quite some time, let alone caught on video.
Yes, this video is five minutes long. Social media experts will tell you this is too long for today’s shortened attention spans. It doesn’t matter. You will watch it, and you won’t be able to pull your eyes away from Green’s actions (Beastmode and Buckets are featured as well).
That’s because every one of you has enjoyed watching an entire music video that was at least this long — if not several minutes longer — and this looks like a music video starring Draymond Green (especially if you toggle with the video quality on the bottom and watch this in high-def). Instead of music, you get screams from thousands of Warriors fans who can’t believe what they’re seeing. I couldn’t quite believe it either.

Draymond Green celebrated in return to hometown Saginaw
SAGINAW -- "Dray Day," the T-shirts proclaimed in yellow lettering over white, blending with blue Golden State Warriors jerseys, Michigan State green and Saginaw High black and gold to represent today's guest of honor.
They threw a parade for Draymond Green in his hometown, 10 days after he helped lead Golden State's NBA finals win over Cleveland; three years after the completion of an MSU career featuring three Big Ten titles and two Final Fours; seven years after the second of his consecutive Class A state titles with Saginaw High; and days before he signs a deal that should earn him eight digits annually.
Today was free and fun, old and young, black and white, singing and dancing for a 25-year-old sports hero on a cool, cloudy afternoon. It started at city hall, where unofficial parade greeter Michelle Flowers helped direct traffic amid the reminiscing.

I think high basketball IQ is so rare that most coaches can't even see it because they never really had it themselves.

Izzo can thank UK for firing Tubby, otherwise he never gets the chance to coach him because Izzo didn't think Green was good enough for a scholarship offer.

Re: Draymond Green
WTF Herbie? Sometimes its just frustrating knowing your troilling for whatever reason, but lets not re-write history.
Lou Dawkins his H.S. coach at Saginaw played for Tubby at Tulsa. That was a done deal and everyone who followed basketball knew it was a done deal. Lou and Tubby were very close and they had Day Day wrapped up to Kentucky from day one. Plus it was "Kentucky" If Day Day wasn't coming MSU, the only other school he was going to was Kentucky with Tubby and Dawkins. Oh, and btw, when Day Day verbaled to Kentucky, MSU didn't have any scholarships to give out. We didn't have one till Maurice Joseph tranferered out. Then when Kentucky fired Tubby, and Mo Jo transfered, Day Day was a done deal to MSU. A School he had in his final two because his aunt who was a Parade All America, played at MSU.
So, I'll let you say what you want to say. Say Izzo didn't offer, say Day Day didn't have us in his final two, but lets do it with some facts first.
Have at it.
