After dropping a game to WMU, NIU has won their last two conference games. They are 5-1 in the MAC and 16-3 overall. They are tied with Kent State for best record in the MAC. NIU plays Akron tomorrow, which should be a decent test. The NIU defense looks tough and the Huskies could emerge as the best team in the MAC. This is Turtleneck with your Monday MAC report. Update. Things not going as well this year. NIU lost five non-conference games and just dropped their first MAC game. NIU is 8-6. It's a really young team. They only have five seniors, and only three of those five play serious minutes. A big majority of the guys that see the floor are freshmen and sophomores.

This is what, Monty's 4th or 5th year? Are those seniors from the previous regime? It seems like by year four he ought to have some of his own upperclassmen contributing. Five seniors also seems like a lot for a hoop team.

This is actually his sixth year at NIU, so those are his players. I suppose five is a lot, but one is actually a grad transfer from IU where he played football.

4-1 in the MAC, guys. Good start to conference play. They are playing good defense and rebounding.

NIU @ Iowa tonight. Last game before MAC play starts. NIU is 7-5. Hard to tell what is going on in the MAC right now. CMU is 10-2 and has the best record, but their schedule has been really soft. Nobody else has less than four losses. It's going to be a great season of MAC basketball, guys!
