IIRC, Musk paid 44 billion for Twitter. Probably worth 1/2 that now, so his loss is ~ $20 billion. His net worth is about 220 billion and so I don't think he is losing sleep over it.

IIUI Musk is one of a number of tech billionaires who are Ayn Rand Atlas Shugged types who want to disrupt the current system and believe that they have the moral obligation to do so because they proved they are the best by making tons of money during the dotcom market bubble, where they sold dotcom stock at wildly inflated values.

Their sense of moral worth is also wildly inflated, but they have the power, via their money to be disruptive.

When Musk tried to back out of buying Twitter, he said it was because of bots and fake accounts. Then, after buying Twitter, he lifted almost all of the bans and brought bigots, racists, and their hate speech back to the platform.

He did nothing to address the bot problem, and then gave bigots and racists their accounts back. It’s his own fault that there is a rise in hate speech on Twitter. He is looking to place blame elsewhere, which says a lot about who Elon is. Between the bots and lifting bans, this is what he got.

Now he wants to blame the ADL for why people and advertisers are bailing. I don’t know why other than he is an erratic bigot himself. Apartheid Clyde seems like a fitting nickname for this guy.

There is an article in a recent New Yorker about him and it covers this in passing. The State Department and the DoD negotiated with him. aka are paying him, to keep these networks operational for Ukrainian use.

This turns out not to be true.

The Starlink network was not shutdown for Crimea as it had never been activated. Ukraine did ask Musk to activate it however various international agreements prohibit it's use for offensive military operations. Starlink could have been activated if the US government (Biden) had so requested. But it did not.

Under existing agreements Musk could not activate the system to support offensive military operations but could have done so if the US government had so requested. There is nitter.net that shows everything. Not sure how it collects tweets, if it is a one time thing or whether it scrapes Twitter each time someone accesses a tweet. I found that when Elon put replies behind the paywall.

Musk seems to have a different vision for X than for the old Twitter. When he bought Twitter he found a bloated money losing company. Major cost cutting and a name change to X and now a longer-term philosophy of developing a paid subscriber base but also expanding to platform from simple Tweets and responses to live news and other presentations.

Personally I still enjoy X/Twitter. I curate my page to MSU sports and content creators that I enjoy and filter out as much of the wacko politics as I can.

Will Musk's X ultimately be successful? Time will tell but he has a way of outsmarting his naysayers.

It isn't a secret what Musk claims he wants to turn "x" into, but he changes his mind daily, if not more often, and there was a much better way to add the functionality to Twitter than the one he his trying to pull off.

Sorry not buying your idea that X caters to Nazis and conspiracy freaks (notice that you have changed to this from "Nazis and idiots"). If people like Mark Dantonio and Buzz Aldrin might not have signed up to what you perceive as today's X, it is easy enough for them to sign off or delete their account.

Yes, there is a lot of garbage on all social media including X. However it is easy enough to curate your own feed to largely eliminate the riff raff and have an interesting read from people that you enjoy hearing from like Mark Dantonio, Buzz Aldrin and Steve Martin (he focuses mostly on Bluegrass music) to name a few that I follow.
