2020 Congressional Elections

I do know that Democrats talk and the folks who are running the Peters campaign know how Debbie Stabenow nailed Spencer Abraham in the last two weeks of the campaign.

US Senator Abraham was using the GOP playbook going negative early and often against MI state senator Stabenow. Like Peters, Stabenow knew trying to match the GOP deep pockets ad for ad was not going to happen so she waited.

On Thursday, 12 days before the election Stabenow for US Senate ran a devestating ad chronicling how US Senator Spencer Abraham had blown off repeated calls from multiple constituents for his help but at the same time was making fund raising appearances for other GOP US Senate and House candidates in other states.

Something is up with James ad that includes his wife. It either got a bad Q score after airing or I suspect it put her in a position to have the spot light on her. Two things are bad about that. All ads should center on candidates and the spouse "sticking up" for her husband puts her as someone whose activities or Amway job isn't something you want to happen.

and, besides being black and being owned by Betsy DeVos, how does one just run for United States Senate all the time? Most people start out as county commissioner, run for the state house/senate, maybe a US congressional seat, then the US senate.

Then there's the new Slotkin ad where she eviscerated her opponent in a TV station debate for bring up her mother. The guy looked like he wanted to find a place to hide.

According to this ABC/WaPo poll this week, it looks like Peters is going to hold James off, although the article says the difference isn't statistically significant.

Still shocked the DNC hasn't brought to light to who and when James wife gained new employment.

If you have the means drop a few bucks for some of the candidates in right races - Maine, Iowa, NC, etc.

Not to discourage it, but I'm not sure it matters at this point, as candidates wont have much time to use it. Tomorrow is the last day that they can place TV ads, I believe.

and, from how it seems, Slotkin has our congressional district sewn up. I was a little skeptical when she voted for impeachment, as it's a very gerrymandered district, all the way down to the racists in Howell and even extends over into Oakland County some.

probably just a testament to how absolutely strong of a representative/candidate she is. On paper, I don't know that there is someone with better credentials in Congress than her.. definitely not someone relatively new on the scene.

I'm still seeing a lot of James ads in the Detroit market, on WXYZ anyway. Mostly, it seems they resurrected the Liz James ad chastising Peters for going after their son's pre-existing condition (which he never did). Oh, plus I've John John's granny on TV a LOT lately.

James only chance against the strong Biden vote is to hope a good slice of people who are voting for Biden or not voting in the Presidential race AND a significant number of voters who still support Whitmer vote for James.  

As of last week, Whitmer still had more support than Trump.  I don’t see enough James support breaking away from Biden who leads in most polling by 4 percent or more.

What’s James next move if he loses?  He’ll be a 39 year old who will have lost 2 statewide US Senate races.  

Hindsight says he would have been better off by choosing a GOP friendly gerrymandered Congressional district in 2016 and anticipated running for the seat Stabenow won in 2018 as a 4 term Congressman in 2024.

Yep, he should pay attention to how Debbie Stabenow did it. She started out as a county clerk and made her way to the Senate from there.

Peters, Slotkin and Stevens races are pretty disappointing. At least Peters can still cling to uncounted votes in Wayne county. Maybe.

Did the 150k votes from Wayne County that dug into Trump's lead also did into James lead in the Senate, as well? Last night the Senate numbers closely mirrored the Presidential numbers.
