As of now, I’m hearing they have not sweetened his contract. I guess, declaring that he’s staying in Detroit, as a good business person, you really don’t have to sweeten it up however, a nice little reward would be nice.

Do you guys get the vibe he doesn’t want to be a head coach? There are some coordinators who have never wanted that smoke. They’re great at what they do and don’t want to deal with the bullshit of the head coach.


I don’t get the NFL. A team like the lions takes off so all the talking heads start pointing at the coordinators who are doing great and it’s like they’re almost forcing these guys to leave and go get a HC job.

I personally know for an absolute fact Bobby Williams did not want to be the HC here as much as he felt he had to be. Long story though.

I don't know that he doesn't want to be an HC, I just think he knows that he is young enough to hold back and wait for the right opportunity to come along. Commanders are a total dumpster fire - sure, high reward if you can go in and win, but also a pretty sizeable ding to your career if you go in and lose. Seahawks are not a dumpster fire, but they just fired Pete Carroll because they were getting impatient. If you are a young OC with no HC experience, do you really want to throw yourself to the wolves with a franchise like the Seahawks? Chargers or Falcons would have been perfect for him - pretty solid roster that could be upgraded significantly with a couple key roster moves, and fairly low expectations from the fanbase. Gives a rookie HC more time to cook. I think he will make the jump eventually, but while he waits for the right opportunity, may as well keep building his resume with Detroit. If the Lions have another season like this (or hopefully better), there will be no shortage of right opportunities.

Stability is key. I mean, it’s great to see staff move up to new challenges, but there’s often some fallout. It was great to see Nardawg get his own team, but MD’s program was never the same. Not saying that always happens, but there’s a chance.

Apparently, Ben Johnson didn’t like that the Commanders’ ownership is a bunch of basketball guys. And yes, he includes Earvin. To me, that’s a ding on Johnson the OC because — aside from an ill-advised period as Lakers’ HC —  all Earvin has ever done is win in everything he’s been a part of. Discuss.

As one of the world’s most skeptical lifelong Lions’ observers—I believe him. Or at least I believe he believes it, which is encouraging, because he has already backed up words with actions in his short time on the job. A lot us just wanted to see consistent improvement, beginning with eliminating the all-too-predictable costly mistakes. That was a very big step in the right direction. Winning more games than not was just gravy. That’s how low my bar was set. lol

I think that was exactly 1980 because I was a freshman in the dorms. Anyway I don’t feel like googling, but after that song came out, and the lions did their thing with it, I think they went on a huge losing streak     Maybe I’m not remembering correct but it seems that the losing streak the lions went on that year matched up with the release of their song another one bites the dust

I remember walking through the silver dome in 1999 wearing my Charlie batch jersey after the lions beat the rams to go 6-2 and people were signing that. They finished 2-6. I would rather they not bring that back.

So, the Packers need to steal one of these guys. Dorsey has been with the lions for 3 years. I’m a bit jealous and pissed. Packers used to have the best front office.

Nobody can tell me that a team wins a SB with just coaching and picking the obvious players.  It’s the guys who can see shit beyond the talking heads that win for you. It might not be the GM, but passionate and good people beneath him.

He played college football in Canada but was invited to the NFL combine. It does not surprise me that he could not make the Bears roster. He could have improved a lot in 3+ years.

Obviously Holmes does a great job scouting and finding the right fit. Almost all futures contracts are at or near the league minimum so low risk potential high upside. He seems more linebacker size than DE, 6' 2.5" (combine measurement), 250 ish.
