About the current Harbaugh situation
So all along we were thinking that it was his family that was against moving to Ann Arbor. Current reports indicate that is family and friends are actually encouraging him to take the job but that he wants to explore NFL opportunities first. So really it's the other way around. Which means, really, that UM is his fall-back option.
Really.
Really.

Nobody knows what he's thinking. Or his family. Nobody.
So basically we'll just be guessing In this thread too.
The whole family report could be BS too.

I hope he goes to Michigan. It will make it interesting. I think he's more of a college coach, but I don't think he's necessarily suited for all the things that are involved with being a college coach.

I am kind of just waiting/hoping he turns them down to see the ensuing fallout. They have seemingly put all their eggs in one basket, and if it doesn't work out I feel bad for the second choice. He wont stand a chance because he is not Jim Harbaugh.

You never know, Harbaugh might get lucky. He might catch Coach D on his daughter's wedding day.

If you're buying that load of crap as anything other than an agents tactic to squeeze every last penny out of an NFL owners pocket you're dumb.

I think Jimmy has a HUGE ego. More than most coaches. Michigan fans think he's Jesus. If he thinks he's Jesus, he's going to take the job.

I think reality sets in with him. He is interested in the job. I know that as fact. But he will realize the playing field just isn't level when competing against the SEC. His ceiling is making the playoff. Not winning it. Especially if the field expands. In the NFL its a level playing field and a better coach has an advantage.

If he thinks he's Jesus, reality and common sense go out the window.
It will get interesting starting today. If the Falcons lose and fire Smitty, what if Blank (Falcon's owner) loses his mind and offers Harbaugh $10-12 million/year? Now, Jesus is still Jesus...and has more money than being Jesus somewhere else.

Interesting nugget in here:

Supposedly he accepted once in 2011, then backed out.

Harbaugh initially briefly accepted the Michigan job back in 2011, when he was preparing to leave Stanford for other opportunities, then reached out to the search firm running the process shortly thereafter to say he had changed his mind.

More evidence that nobody knows a thing. I think he goes to UM, and might even have a gentlemen's agreement, but that is100% hunch.

Look at the turnaround caldwell has done, he's got to be on the short list as well. Would definitely jump at the opportunity to coach at the most prestigious university in the world

Bay Area >>>>>> than A2 and it's not even close. Even just Berkeley's campus blows away A2.
I think Oakland makes a good offer to take Jim, it's up to SF to accept but if it's there Jim takes it.

Re: About the current Harbaugh situation
Greg Gabriel's a little peeved at the scUMmers.
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Where-will-Jim-Harbaugh-end-up.html
I also had a very good relationship with the late Bo Schembechler as well as an ongoing friendship with his son Schemy. In all honesty, Michigan was always one of my favorite stops.
My fondness for the school ended this week through no fault of the University, but rather their asinine fans.
What are the chances Harbaugh winds up back at Michigan?
Two weeks ago I tweeted that in all likelihood, Jim Harbaugh would not become the next head coach at Michigan. Two weeks ago that was a very true statement, as Harbaugh wanted to coach nowhere but in the NFL. That was reported in various places by some very credible people. Harbaugh was done with the college game and wanted to coach only in the professional ranks.
Soon after my tweet, I started receiving several threatening, vulgar and obscene tweets from Michigan fans. In simple words, they said I didn’t know what I was talking about and that my sources were worthless.
Of course, they can believe what they want, as that’s what fans do. The problem is that with the recent news surfacing that Harbaugh may in fact become the Michigan coach, the assault on my inbox picked up dramatically in recent days. Over the course of 24 hours I received close to 100 tweets from Michigan fans, some of which are too disgusting to repeat.
And with that, I am done with Michigan. The fans of that school are some of the biggest losers in America.
What Harbaugh and his agent have going for them is the essence of time. An NFL club is going to have to work fast to get a deal done or Harbaugh will be in Ann Arbor. This gives Harbaugh much more leverage than most coaching candidates ever experience. While the money may not be equal to the Michigan finances, it has to be close and, of course, the control he wants has to be a given.
Looking at what jobs may become available next week, the situation that may be best as far as the NFL would be the Oakland Raiders. Given the current structure of the Chicago Bears, more than just Marc Trestman being fired would have to happen. The other situation that could present itself as a very good NFL destination is the New York Jets. Both Oakland and New York want to turn their programs around and may give Harbaugh what he wants. And they may be willing to do it quickly.
One person close to the situation told me that he would put the order of preference for Harbaugh as Oakland first, Jets second and Michigan third. Another person had it Oakland, Michigan, Jets. The bottom line is that no one knows exactly what is going to happen except Jim Harbaugh and his agent, David Dunn. We can all speculate, but we won’t know the answer for another seven or eight days, which will make watching the headlines fun. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Michigan might be a destination for coaches according to the wolvies, but the State of Michigan isn't really a destination, except for maybe a summer vacation.

"The report that says that his family is encouraging him to go to Michigan by Adam Schefter is absolutely incorrect," John Harbaugh said on a conference call with Cleveland media. "There's been no family that I know of that has given him any advice at all. That's a personal decision, that's his to make. And that's just absolutely false. I don't know where that came from, but it didn't come from the Harbaughs. My dad and I both said, don't tell us. If something gets out, we don't want the finger pointed at us. Leave us out of it and don't tell us what you're going to do."

Some fine MLive trolling....

How far backward is this administration to have not even considered one woman for the head coach position? In this day of PC, equality, and gender rights, it is Paleolithic thinking not to have searched for a woman. I think the students of the University of Michigan should stand up and be heard; no search for a woman, no attending the games.

Yeah... They truly believe he has already signed a contract. It's hilarious. Because it's IMPOSSIBLE. He is under contract to coach the 49ers through the 2015 season right now. He will be on the sidelines Sunday, no? There is simply no fucking way in hell the 49ers legal team would allow him to sign a contract while he is still employed by them. It goes against every fathomable fiber of logic on the planet to think that he currently is employed as the head football coach at two different entities.

Further down the thread...
"I'll jump in this thread to dump my little secret too, might as well. My older brother's coworker is very close friends with a family member of Hackett. And guess who came into my brother's workplace? That family member. And he/she said some things (to their friend, my brother's coworker). And while you could say, 'bah-humbug that's too long of a game of telephone to be accurate', it really isn't. Hackett family member to my brother's coworker, immediately to my brother, who came home and told me."

I feel kinda bad for some of them - at least the few that I respect. I know that people who know people are calling this thing and saying they would basically be shocked if it DIDN'T happen and like I said earlier there are actually people - well connected people - saying a contract is SIGNED at this point.
I mean that is just the ultimate red flag to me that this is a hope/wish over an actual factual event. Someone should tweet @ Rovell and ask him to FOIA the SF contract and see if it would be legally possible right now for him to have signed a contract with UM.
