About the current Harbaugh situation

To think that Oakland has a chance here is wishful thinking. This has been a done deal for a week, and Harbaugh is flying to Michigan this evening. Apparently there are three top 25 recruits ready to commit to UM as soon as the official announcement is made(provided that Harbaugh will actually take their commitments).

Harbaugh doesn't take commitments dip shit. Admissions makes the final decision.  Now stop making shit up (unless you want to go into depth about a pro coach under contract tampering with high school recruits) and go take your turn tongue washing his ass.

What exactly are you blathering about? Of course a coach takes commitments. Obviously anyone willing to commit has been recruited by the past staff, and already vetted by admissions.

If Harbaugh signs it'll be another off the field "win" for scUM. Adding it to the trophy case along with 'crootin titles will help fill it up.

You massively overpaid for a good hire. I'm not sure that's any better than just overpaying for a bad one.

That link I posted above pretty much out lines that Raiders came in strong with an offer and if that story is true Michigan matched/beat the offer driving up the figure from what was initially reported.

It's going to be interesting to hear how much $$$ he's getting but according to that report it will be higher than the $8 mil originally reported.

Raiders are being idiots though, they are better off with Sparano.

It blows my mind though that Harbaugh is going to be pulling in more than Saban. This is going to change the entire land scape of CFB. Ticket prices and paying for a CFB coach is going to reach an absurd level after this.

I wasn't ruling the raiders out, didn't think that UofM would up the ante. According to Greg Rosenthal he's going to make more money than the original offer.

UofM basically made Harbaugh an offer he couldn't refuse, and they made an offer no other pro team could match.

That being said, unless he does something kooky (very likely) between now and the start of next season this is my last post on the hire/Haurbaugh. Think he's a pretty damn good coach, don't think he's worth Saban money but this hire should put Michigan back on the map. Next year will be interesting. Go Green!

And they should not have been ruled out, but I think things started to point in the direction of UM by the start of last week if not before. it just seemed to be lining up in UM's favor, but I think some people Had a hard time grasping why he would return to CFB. If UM does end up paying more than $8 million per year, I guess that might be the only reason we need to hear.

We have our coach and he's done nothing but win.  I expect that to continue.  MSU has gone in its own direction and has been successful that way.  We have the best AD in the country in Hollis, we have LAKS, we have Izzo, and we have coach D.  I don't expect the winning culture they have developed to change just because Harbaugh was hired by SCum.  Any walvie that thinks so is delusional.

I don't really understand all the Harbaugh hype.  He did well at Stanford, but it took a couple of years and he had Andrew Luck as a QB who is one of those rare QBs with talent that also qualified academically to get into Stanford.  Without Andrew Luck, Harbaugh is running off mediocre seasons at Stanford and nobody gives a shit about him.  Besides, even with Andrew Luck, it's not like Harbaugh won a national championship there or something.  Could it be that Harbaugh saw the writing on the wall at Stanford that he had no chance to get another Andrew Luck so he took advantage of his success before Stanford returned to mediocrity and he got stuck there?   I think so.  Also, whatever Harbaugh did with the 49ers to get them winning seems to have lost its luster.  The fact is that the 49ers had Mike Singletary as their head coach until he was fired and temporarily replaced with Jim Tomsula who was the DC.  Mike Singletary hasn't really been successful as a HC anywhere and Jim Tomsula had no HC experience.  It may be as simple as the previous coaching staffs were clueless and Harbaugh had a little more than a clue.  However, after 3 years of winning they can't wait to get rid of Harbaugh after a mediocre year?  That does not compute in the NFL.

Maybe the 49ers owner and management are just stupid, or maybe Harbaugh is such a raging douche that they think it's better to lose with someone else than win with Harbaugh.  I think it's more likely to be the latter.  How long will it take for Harbaugh to argue with Schlissel about accepting great football recruits that can't cut it academically?  You know that wouldn't be considered at Stanford, I think that's why Harbaugh left.  SCum is no Stanford and Harbuagh knows it.  Harbaugh also knows that he will be expected to win.  Harbaugh will almost certainly be at odds with Schlissel over this.  Also, will SCum be able to hire an AD that won't clash with Harbaugh or will they just keep their Interim AD as Harbaugh's personal doormat?  What happens when the AD wants to make investments in other sports and Harbaugh wants the money to go to the football program?  SCum better get its administrative house in order if they want to make this work long term.  The 49ers situation provides a parallel.  They wanted Harbaugh, they got him, and now they regret it.  That situation was all about football and nothing else.  At SCum, you have a LOT more going on that's far more important than football.  I doubt that Harbaugh will have so much power that he will run the Administration of the University.  We will see, but history seems to indicate that Harbaugh will wear out his welcome.

Harbaugh may bring SCum back to life, if so, then we will eventually have competitive games with SCum just like we do with OSU.  I don't expect SCum to dominate OSU, nor do I expect SCum to dominate MSU.  It will be interesting though.  Frankly, I think they overpaid, but when you're an administration that can't identify excellent young coaching prospects and have a fanbase full of delusional lunatics, you will have to overpay to get the guy with the hype.
