Kitchen has a half size sink, a tiny glass cooktop, under counter fridge/freezer, and no oven, dishwasher, or microwave. Over $400K. HOA fees are $1400 a MONTH.
He's got far more than enough money to buy it cash. Place is a little more than 2 hour drive from his primary residence. Use to be a pretty good skier but is now 60 and hasn't skied in 20 years. Was a decent golfer but hasn't played in many years. Says his wife has given him the "okay" to buy it. She rarely ventures more than 3-5 miles from their house and likely won't go there more than once.
A bit weirded out by his proposed property acquisition. Very out of character for him. Has said he doesn't want to rent it out, which is what he does for a living owning more than 20 rental properties free-and-clear.
Should I try to talk him out of it?
Is he asking your opinion?

Pretty sure he's never done coke. Rarely drinks. Has worked over two very nice houses nearby that he's never rented out, now worth over $1.5M combined. Refers to them as his man caves.Nordic wrote:Gotta have a blow house.

Not sure. Like said, seems out of character for him. Though, he has mentioned wanting to buy a castle in Europe in the past.tGreenWay wrote:The Pantry wrote:Friend in CA sent me a link to a condo he's thinking of buying at Squaw Valley (Lake Tahoe). Sounds like he'll be fine even if he throws a bunch of money away on it, I probably wouldn't say anything.

I don’t know, maybe there’s a way to joke about how it’s not a smart purchase. Maybe he’ll pick up on your tone and ask you directly. Not sure I would come right out and tell him first, though, without his asking. Not your business unless he asks or you think he might be (medically) losing his faculties. I might say something if I thought a friend was showing signs of dementia and was about to make a buy like that.

Wife and Daughter are leaving for Vegas tomorrow for Mom Daughter 22nd birthday weekend. Anyway, I have three surgical masks. I've told them to wear them on the plane. They laughed at me. WTF? I mean, at least say they understand my concern and that I'm over reacting to the virus. But, I'd be wearing that mask on the plane. Further, I told them I bet they'll see people on the plane wearing them.

Saw two robins in the neighborhood this week, right after the snow storm. Either they’re sticking around thru winter now or they got a big shock coming up here.

If this isn't a random rambling then idk what is. So I'm a HS Spanish teacher. The other day I went off on a tangent about Slovakian pronunciation, showed a couple examples, and made an off-hand comment that if anyone did their upcoming presentation in Slovakian I'd give them 100% no questions asked. One of the little shits actually researched (Google translated) everything and did it

Havent seen that board, but I wouldn’t put it past Putin to assign a few trolls in there just to keep the pro/anti-vaxxers going at each other. For realsies.

Been trying stick deodorants that are healthier alternatives to the ones containing paraben and aluminum. So far I’ve used Schmidt’s and Native. Neither are very easily applied, but Schmidt’s is downright ridiculous. Native is somewhat better, and I would stick with that (stick... get it?), but no way I’m paying $12 for stick deodorant. Too expensive.

Not necessarily. Make sure to check the labels because they do sell some with the harmful stuff, some without. I appreciate the suggestion, though.

I don’t feel like looking at my deodorant, but is that common in them?

Their antiperspirant is marked 48-hour protection and has aluminum oxide.

Not sure what you’re referring to when you say common. You mean the aluminum oxide? Yes, for anti-perspirants, it’s fairly common. Deodorants are a different story.
I’ve only been trying out new deodorants for a few months now. I used Mitchum for probably 25+ years, then switched to Tom’s for a year. That’s when I realized Tom’s had products with aluminum oxide in them. I thought everything Tom’s sold was all natural, no harmful chemicals in its entire lineup. Maybe things changed when the majority ownership switched to Colgate/Palmolive. I don’t know.
Goofy as it sounds, I really miss Mitchum. That stuff worked great, and I never had to get a scented product. Most of the time, I only needed it twice a week. I’m hoping that will cut down my chances for dementia.

Yep. One of the things I don’t like about these deodorants is how overpowering their scents are. Tom’s is the same way. I bought a Schmidt’s stick with a juniper and cedar scent, mostly b/c I liked how it smelled. Now I can’t stand it because it’s such a strong smell. Native is better but again, twice the price of other, similar sized products.

Re: Random Ramblings
This deodorant talk intrigues me. Not because I'm really worried about what's in it, since I've inflicted enough of my own damage over the years, but because I want something that actually smells nice and works. With that said, please feel free to suggest not only the healthy versions, as you've done, but also the kind where you'll piss your pants if you stand too close to an operating microwave.

I use the Schmidts charcoal. No problems. Actually seems to work just as good as the anti p I used to use.
