I'm not thinking at unattended charging stations are a good idea, just as unattended gas stations would not be. The "tech bros" who loved that idea may have a nice little game boy mentality but in the real world people steal and things break.
The last two foreign countries I visited were 90% unattended fueling stations. I had no issues. Maybe it's just Americans that fuck things up?
Free market principles apply to unattended items, more than most. The attitude of the free market is that if it is not actively protected the owner must not care.

The markets keep telling me that EV's are winning.

Congratulations on "six digits" of new EV registrations!
How many cars total were sold in April? 1.3+ MILLION?
Winning!

Congratulations on "six digits" of new EV registrations!
How many cars total were sold in April? 1.3+ MILLION?
Winning!
More EV's sold as a percentage of all cars sold.
More EV's on the roads create more market for charging stations.
More charging stations reduce EV purchase anxiety.
Less EV purchase anxiety increases EV sales penetration.
It's a virtuous feedback loop.

And then there is the potential of lower priced cars from China.
The article talks about how China may set up shop in Mexico to avoid tariffs and build a car that sells for $12k in China.

Mexico is not our friend. We should probably just invade them. Solves the border crisis and sends a message to Russia. Win win. /s
But as for the BYD e-Yugo, I think this thing will sell like hotcakes in China.

At $12k it could be an option if you are on a tight budget. Expect they will have to modify it to meet US legal requirements such as air bags, automatic braking, etc which will push costs up.

The average American wouldn't buy that piece of shit with a gun to their head. Can you imagine running around in a Chinese made electric Pinto with all of the bro-dozers and semi trucks whistling past you?
Edit: Yeah, add in things like actual crash protection, mandatory lights, back up cameras, and all the other shit the government foists upon you, tack on whatever tariffs the government places on it, and it's gonna be a $35K car.
Edit 2: Also add in the lack of dealer network and ridiculous local and federal laws around not selling manufacturer direct.

Have you personally seen one and sat in it?
Unsure as to what they would need to add, was never part of homoagation studies for China to US.
Made in Mexico is suppose to sidestep the tariffs.
Dealer network is a good point but expect the Tesla way of doing business to prevail.

Re: Electric Vehicles - Information & Updates
So Ford's CEO has some words about EV's.
https://www.axios.com/2024/06/29/ford-china-evs-electric-cars
Ford learned a lot from customers who bought its early EVs like the Mach-E and the Lightning, he added.
"We have all the data off the cars, so we can see the Mach-E. We can see how people are using it, what their state of charge is, where they drive, how often they charge."
"And we were shocked to find out that more people than we thought don't take long trips."
By the numbers: Ford's research showed that roughly half of Americans take four or fewer trips over 150 miles a year.
That's what convinced the company that there's a market opening for cheaper EVs with shorter-range batteries.
A $7,500 tax credit is a "game changer" for many entry-level EV buyers, Farley said.
"That's where the customer is telling us EVs should go."

Do they not take long trips, or do they not take long trips in their EV because EVs suck at long trips?

Have to build out the charging networks, we have known this was a roadblock for years.

GM said they'd be all electric by 2035 couple years ago. Haven't said anything since publicly, but internally the EV train has slowed down a lot.

Their web page still says all electric for light vehicles by 2035.

Define "light vehicle".
They don't make any. Other than a couple of Cadillacs GM doesn't even make any actual cars anymore. It's all trucks and SUVs.
Is a Chevy Suburban a "light vehicle"? Of course in your gaslighting world Joe Biden = Joe Montana

Not sure what a light vehicle is. My guess would be everything except heavy duty pick up trucks and above. In Ford termology F150's and maybe F250's, not sure about the latter, are light vehicles, but the F350's and anything above, if they still make those, would be medium level and above.
It's always great to see a master QB, like Joe Biden, manage the game.
Re: Electric Vehicles - Information & Updates
Trump's pom pom squad are posting their asses off on this thread and their getting sloppy sliding back into previous screen name styles.
The only significant news I saw regarding EV's is how pre-owned/used EV prices have crashed. That makes sense to me. Anyone buying a first generation Tesla and even newer have to contend $10,000+ battery replacement after an accident, damage done that wasn't identified after an accident or conditions shorten life.
Most of the used vehicle buying public isn't ready for a purchase where everything has to be done at one brand's dealerships and finding any undercarriage damage that meant a new exhaust/oil pan etc could end up having your insurance company totaling the car if the $10K + programming and body repair exceeds current values.
Pair the battery questions with software updates and used EV's along with hybrids are new and exciting compared to traditional cars and trucks.
Given what I see out there I have the most confidence in Honda, Hyundai/Kia and Toyota giving longterm support to their EV's. Not quite as confident for GM and Fordand so long as Elon Musk is calling all the shots at Tesla no one knows when he makes a knee jerk decision that could make older Teslas bricked computers with 4 wheels.

Btw, I haven't been able to ice fish for years now.
So for all the shitting on EVs, the change is real and we have all seen it.
Hell, many roads in Key West just had standing water when the tide was high... Another couple inches and Hemmingway cats will have to learn to swim.

Tesla's, so I understand, are harder to repair, structurely, so yes more expensive and maybe more likely to see damage to the battery, which would need to be replaced.
Used EV's have older and somewhat obsolete tech so less perceived value than an older ICE. This might cause them to go to people with less money and create some .market acceptance.

Lots of old people, or out of shape young ones.
We typically see 2 to 4 cycling groups on our road on the weekends, 15 to 30 people on non-E bikes hauling ass at 20 to 30 mph up and down the hills on our dirt road.
Re: Electric Vehicles - Information & Updates
BTW Ford issued it's 2nd quarter sales numbers yesterday.
Sales of EV's are up - no real surprise there, they are #2 behind Tesla and rising.
Conversely, sales of ICE vehicles dropped a few percent.

Roads where I live are rolling, I'd guess between elevation changes from 25 feet to 150 feet, with very few level stretches. I'm guessing that's why they ride them.
BTW, GM announced sales and EV sales are way up.
