Going to hit GTEastBay here soon for the cisco. fucking KILLED them last year. Salmon trolling style with smaller spoons on riggers and sliders, not the magnums. They smoke up very nicely.
Homie, happy reading. http://www.woods-n-waternews.com/Articles-i-2009-06-01-196036.112113_Debating_reasons_for_variations_in_yearling_buck_antler_size.html
Not reading that. When you said "yearling" for some reason I = born 6 months ago. That could be a 1.5 year old deer. Great genetics if so.

Yeah, last year's crop. Can't guarantee it they are the same, but I didn't start watching them yesterday. They are regular visitors in our horse pasture and apple orchard.

Heading up today after work to continue deer season prep. If I get any monsters on the Cuddyback I'll post up a couple.
tTy, do you buy shelled corn? Right now we are getting 100lbs for $13. Seems a bit high to me.

I was just up in Frankfort last week to buy a new Lund. My plans are to get out on the lake, but it won't be until next season before I have the boat setup for big water fishing. Good luck with the cisco!

When you are buying gear for your rig, get these rod holders. Best on the market. Nothing else is even close.

Yeah, they look pretty solid. Plus, I see they're based out of Traverse City. They are the top contender for my cash, at this moment.

Check out this dudes salmon fishing vids, particularly the dipsy rod hits. Notice how the rod holder pivots 100% freely so you can get the rod out with ease compared to more traditional rigid/fixed rod holders that do not allow movement. All of his rod holders are Blue Water. His FIL used to own the company but he sold it off to some other guy 4 or 5 years ago. I bought from the previous owner, but I don't see why anything would have changed with them in the meantime.
Enjoy!

Re: Swill Deer Hunting Thread.
It's a very fluid movement getting the rod out. Definitely much less cumbersome than a holder that's fixed in one position.

Re: Swill Deer Hunting Thread.
Have seen a ton of deer. Lots of does (we have some huge does) and lots of smaller bucks.
This warmer weather has really delayed the pre-rut activity. We made some mock scrapes hoping to jump start activity, but next week is supposed to get cold and that should get the big boys up moving around looking for does.
I am low on venison but don't want to deal with shooting a doe until the weather cools off. So big buck hunting only again this weekend.
It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Took a nice doe this past Tuesday, still have a combo and two more doe tags so minus well shoot em if you got em....
I have two big 8's and a 6'er on cam that I want a crack at... any of em will do far as I'm concerned, but if I had my pick, one of the 8's is a beaut fashow.
Good luck LWS.

I didn't know the French hunted deer. And they keep an unarmed person with them as a "beater" in their hunting party? WTF?

In 'Murica, it is called pushing not beating. And it is a perfectly acceptable hunting form. Normally, the pushers are still hunters and still have weapons afield (bows or crossbows in bow season, shotguns or legal firearm for gun season).
When deer aren't moving, the idea is to "push" them towards the hunters that are setup waiting for the deer to move into their area. Not a good tactic in bow season as it generally gets the deer running, but in gun it can be an effective hunting method.

Shouldn't that pusher be armed at least? A big buck storming at you is not good news. I don't think you can really run away from that unless you climb a tree super fast.

Target acquired...... Finally during shooting hours.....
I have hundreds of pics of this guy and his smaller (barely) brother hanging out together in the middle of the night. Both are nice 8's..... This is the first pics I have of him in the daylight, and in the middle of the day to boot!

And, FWIW, I will be out in my stand during the OSU game this weekend. The pics above were taken at 11:20AM, and I think my clock is an hour fast on my cam, so that actually ='s 1:20PM now that the time has changed, so this motherfucker was prancing around at high noon.

tTy, that is a beast!! Good luck out there and stay safe. Don't you love the rut? Without it these big bucks would be impossible to hunt because they typically bed down all day and only move around at night. (I'd try to explain all of this to the antis on this board but forget it, they're rolling.)

Nice, I have three or four baldies on my trail cam and that's it. Just put it out a couple days ago though so there's still hope.

Re: Swill Deer Hunting Thread.
Had an encounter with a monster on Saturday morning. Grunted him to 30 yds but he stopped right behind a bunch of brush and limbs. If he had been to the left I would have been able to arrow him but once he didn't see what was grunting, he turned and trotted off the other way, oblivious to my bleating, rattling, grunting and snort-wheezing.
Two years in a row I've had a chance at a bruiser, only to be spoiled by limbs in the way.
